How in the hell was it loaded in the first place. Who keeps loaded guns laying around the home?

This is a legit troll. Nicely done

Not even gonna pile on, but c'mon, dirty Sanchez! You just opened your mouth and removed all doubt.

Everyone like myself that has several firearms for home protection, pretty useless to have them unloaded, and locked away.

Wow. So unexpected to hear about a lapse of judgment after this...
Glad no irreparable damage was done. Lessons like this don't usually come so cheap.
Thanks for sharing.

If this is true you are a jackass

Since you can't follow basic safety rules, maybe you should think again about owning firearms.

What part of the gun were you oiling? The trigger?

It may have been a dangerous action with a firearm, but I appreciate the OP's honesty about it.
Always treat them like they're loaded.

I guarantee you there's a whole bunch of people reading this who have handled loaded guns drunk.
Guilty. I loved to mess with them in my drinking days.

I’ve had two encounters with dumbasses and firearms.
1st a few years back, one of my employees came into my office to show me his new .45. He popped the mag and handed it to me. I racked the slide and out pooped a round. I went a little overboard on my “gun safety training” towards him.
2nd a few years later, my dad was showing his girlfriend’s son his guns at the office. He’s got a colt 1908 .380. I wasn’t in the office to know what happened but heard the shot from out in the shop. I came running in to his office full of smoke. He had fired in the direction of the “stepson”, it hit the floor and went through the ceiling. That was the most disappointed I’ve ever been in my dad. Got nicknamed DeskPop from then on.
Electricians recovered the bullet a few weeks ago when they were changing out light fixtures. I’ve been trying to figure out how to put in a frame with a safety warning or something. Thought about getting a photo of Will Farrell to put in the frame with DeskPop in big letters.
