No. These ARE just feel good gestures. Let the wind blow over and we will all be ok. It's amazing how much flack I've gotten around here saying this, but it appears to be the case. Politicians want to make a show when the attention is on. Then the attention will go somewhere else and it will all be over.

Obama favors a gun ban? New and refreshing information.

I meant to comment this to Wick's post, but what Judge said is good too.

I agree he's grand standing to a degree, but that doesn't change the fact that the left are making an all out push for our guns. If gun guys are devided then we will lose them a little at a time.

First time I've heard directly from him what he wants banned. Pardon me for disrupting your busy day with my old information

You didn't pay attention to when he gave all his EO's and made his recommendations to Congress?

I'm not "bothered", I'm annoyed that this might perpetuate more panic amongst gun owners and it's not even new information. We don't need to freak out every time Obama opens his mouth.

only way the country will get off their asses and vote these pieces of shite out is when they get legitimately scared.

The people who vote for Obama are going to no matter what.

Well, not no matter what... he could undergo a MJ-esque transformation.

But you get my point. I just want to buy some .22 LR, dammit, stop panicking

MF-ing this! I bought my daughters a youth .22 for Christmas and find myself rationing bullets for them. Yesterday I told my 5-year old "sure, we can go shoot a can. You get 3 shots. That's it." She was 2/3, so maybe this is making her a better shot.

He can push all he wants. I've said it before on here and I'll say it again... The GOP still holds the House. Without the house, this bill isn't going anywhere. There are a lot of dem senators that aren't on the Feinstein gun bill bandwagon, either.

Everyone needs to chill the frick out. This isn't something that can be changed by EO.

This. And if you will bend over everytime they want to take some rights away, it wont take long before your left with none.

I really want to know what Louisiana government's immediate reaction would be to some sort of ban. I think bobby (like I know the mf'er) is staying quiet for political reasons but I'm interested in what he would say/do.

There's actually a LA bill right now to nullify any federal gun legislation. I don't know if it really means shite in the grand scheme of things but it's a step in the right direction regardless.

The people on the fence are the ones to worry about. That's why we can't take the pressure off even if the future looks good.

Amen. And you just reminded me that I need to go to Ruger.com and email my politicians again...

Absolutely.

I heard the same "save just one child" bullshite grandstanding on a talk radio show today from his speech. If he truly cared about "one child" he would go after the real killers of children every year - alcohol, abusive parents, swimming pools, car accidents, etc.

He doesn't give a single frick. It's all about control.

That's how it starts. In 50 years, gun ownership by the general population will be a thing of the past.

I'm not saying that we all shouldn't keep up to date on what our legislative branch is up to... but, your commment is the exact same thing everyone was saying in the 80's right after Jim Brady was shot.

And then this fine lady spoke up and gave the Second Amendment a solid foundation in the early 90's. Suzanna Hupp

Every president makes an attempt to have a legacy. Very few actually succeed. After failing to make an improvement on the economy and healthcare, it appears our current President has chosen to make his legacy "the destruction of the 2nd amendment". He isn't the first, and he will not be the last.

Can he make things more difficult on gun owners? Sure. But let's keep some perspective -- gun technology has evolved dramatically over the years. So too, shall the right to own that technology. I am NOT advocating gun bans. I'm just saying -- we take tests to get a driver's license. We take hunter safety courses if we want to hunt. We now take boater safety courses if we want to drive a boat.

Why don't we have mandatory gun safety classes? How many of you have gone to the gun range and been freaked the hell out by someone there with a gun that had ZERO knowledge of basic gun safety? I know I have on numerous occasions.

Personally, I'd like to have any new gun owner have to take the mandatory class necessary for concealed carry. I think it would do a tremendous amount in reducing accidental deaths each year. Will it eliminate the massacres? Absolutely not. But neither will reduced magazine sizes or banning "scary looking ARs".

My point is, we should all be prepared from some changes. However, there is no way in hell Mr. Obama has the political clout to eliminate the 2nd Amendment.
