The one that I had would look right at you when you called and he would hall arse the opposite direct as fast and far as he could go. Nothing ever worked to make that dog listen to you. He would run off for days at a time and come home filthy dirty and exhausted. I think he loved to party.

This was a labradoodle, not a poodle, and I've heard it from others too. Std poodles that I've seen are obedient, labradoodles seem to have just gotten the clever part of the genes.

Dogs in the house gave me allergy problems as a kid, so my parents got some kind of poodle mix mutt...had poodle hair that didn't shed.

That dog tagged along with me out small game hunting and was naturally the best tracker I've ever seen. Quail, squirrel, coon, possum, rabbit, etc. She'd even track down and chase nutria into the water. Retrieving ducks was second nature to her. Received zero training. She outperformed 99% of so-called "hunting dogs" I've seen since.

Many moons ago I went duck hunting with a guide and some friends in eastern NC. The guide showed up with a poodle. We all kind of snickered, but damn, that dog was outstanding.

I was wondering if yall have ever hunted with one? Also, I was curious to know if any of yall know any local breeders.

I saw one at a field trial YEARS ago.. and the dog was STRONG.... i laughed and chuckled when I saw it... just damned glad my brown beast placed ahead of the poodle....2 guys I trained with finished had dogs - GOOD dogs finish behind the poodle... and I never let em hear the end of it.... it was bad enough a brown dog bested their dogs.. but a poodle...

there was a doctor at ochsner that had one a friend of mine in Nola helped train it.. and that dog... was pretty dog gone good.... all things considerd.
