I worked at a boat place in Mandeville for a bit, and we had this tri-toon with a 300 on it. After doing 70mph sea trials in the lake, I decided it was a stupid boat. The thing would carve corners, but it felt like it was gonna flip any second. Pontoon boats are meant to go slow

Thank you for the responses. Looks like the general consensus is that it is underpowered. My uses for the boat would be riding around in the blind river area, but about 5 times per year which is why I’m not looking to spend a lot of money. Something that would do about 20-25mph seems to be what I’m looking for after further researching.

I’d get as much motor as you can afford.

You buy the motor, they throw the boat in for free. Get the most HP you can possibly afford unless it will stay on a very small or no wake lake.

If anyone knows of a pontoon boat with no/bad motor let me know. I'd love to pick one up for a couple thousand and throw my 115 on it.

My cousin had a 19’ with a 50 Merc. It was miserable to ride in due to the speed. From Tin Lizzie’s to the Prop it was almost an hour ride. No way I’d buy it to be on a river.

It’s been a while since I purchased a boat. Is sales tax still only on the trailer value in Louisiana if buying from an individual or has that changed?

Was it a 6 foot tri-toon?

We have a tri-toon with a 250 on it and it still can barely get above 45 mph

70 mph with a 300hp seems impossible to me
