They had 2 anchored at the rocks this weekend that made me optimistic. I'm no saltwater fisherman but my dad is a Cocodrie junkie and I'm sure he could put me on some spots closer inland.

It's def something I'm ginna look into. I'm not sure if a pontoon boat or deck boat would be better though. Id think a deck boat would draft more and limit ability to go after reds

Some of my neighbors use pontoons in Pontchartrain/Borgne for poker runs and spec fishing with the kids. You have to watch the weather in the bays and you can't get real shallow to chase reds, but it works.

I have an Xpress H20 bay. We had six on it twice this weekend and it was fine with me just "playing guide" rather than really fishing. Yesterday it was awesome for just me and a buddy hitting rigs in Borgne and then chasing reds in the marsh. No boat can do it all well.

I've considered getting a big one and completely stripping it to just a console and some low sides, I'd use it as a night fishing rig for trout. I wouldn't want to constantly beat the crap out of it and realize the trailer would have to replaced with something that could tolerate saltwater. My thoughts are that a stripped pontoon boat would be virtually unsinkable as long as the sponsons stayed intact.

Some of the new 3 pontoon versions are pretty stout and can accept higher HP motors. I would not hesitate to take those out into the bays and open waters. The problem for me is that they are not designed to be fishing boats. No rod holders, no fish box, no storage, hard to clean, lots of cushions to rip and tear.

I had an older party barge with a 90 Yamaha on false river. Daughter is 13 and her friends want to be pulled faster on the tube plus I wanted a boat to fish the coast in. Sold the party barge and bought a used Nauticstar 210 coastal and love it. Seats 7 comfortably but also has fishing features, trolling motor, live wells etc. miss the old party barge but this boat seems to satisfy our needs. I'm guessing you live in St Francisville. You are welcome to come over and take a look if u want. I live in Jarreau.

I once knew a guy that would go from Orange Beach out to the Lumps in in a 22 foot pontoon. He spent the night out there several times.
