Went out there this afternoon and you can see they didn’t remove anymore trees, but they shaved about 10’ off the point bringing the water line closer to the trees. They also wrapped the levee back into the hill, but left it a foot or so lower than the main levee so it’s still a spillway.
This is looking from the spillway. This area was widened a little bit more, but it hasn’t been dug any deeper. The new levee/spillway looks like it will raise the depth another 1.5’ maybe.

We need Clyde to go out there and stand next to the levee for some perspective. I like the layout of the pond and raising that spillway helps a lot. My question is how you gonna keep overflow water from washing out the spillway? Gonna pour some concrete on top of that spillway? I'd get some kind of cover grass growing on that levee ASAP, too.

pictures sometimes don't do it justice. Mine is about 20' deep but looks about 10' when I take a picture.

Is it just the pictures, or is the elevation of the trees below the elevation of the spillway? Looks like theres a chance they may be in the water? Does your contractor have any way to shoot some grades for you?

I would think your four foot section need to be 6-7’ and that 6’ section need to be 10’ of h20 or am I way off base

They're below. That's why he was hesitant to build the spillway up. I said to just remove the trees, but he thinks when it's at full pool after a big rain the closest tree will bee in 6"-1' of water. When it levels off most of the year, the water should be about 1' shy of the top of the spillway and ride that lip on the point off the tree.

I recommend that you rent or borrow a transit and shoot the spillway high water mark first and then transverse all the way around the pond to see where your water level will actually be. Stake out the high water point about every 100 feet to see where your actual shore line will be and your pond depth at various locations. That transit doesn't lie.

You're preaching to the choir.
The dirt guy just keeps saying, "lets get some water in it and we'll add to the spillway to raise the level as needed."
In my opinion that doesn't need to be raised, the entire pond bottom needs the be bull dozed and scraped another 1-3' lower. You can't do that once there is water in it without pumping it out. And he knows that... They keep saying it's going to be 10' in that lowest corner. The levee isn't but 9' tall and the water line will be well below the top of the levee.
I've raised the issues over and over again.

Has he shot transit on it yet? You don't need to get water in it to see how high it will be. Transit will tell you that. What he's saying sounds a lot like "We need to pass this bill so we can see what's in it.". I understand your frustration. It's your pond. I would insist he dig it to the depth I wanted or I'd find another contractor to finish the job. Shooting transit now will address all of your concerns and worries at this point. Can't stress that enough.

I agree with you. Those fish will struggle in the heat of the summer. You need to tell that motherfricker that he is working for y'all and y'all want it deeper.

I would say don’t let himwaste anymore days of work without verifying levels of pond leaving two feet of levee height to water level. Idk why but I like a 10’ deepest hole and 6’ average. Don’t let him leave until you have that

I would rather them dig it deeper then you control the water level.
