Do anybody bring one with you when you go Deer hunt? Plus what kind of pistol would you recommend to get for personal protection. I use my Mossburg shotgun anyway

Depends what rifle I am hunting with. If I carry the 30/30 I have then the cowboy rig gets pulled out with the 45lc.

If i am hunting with my remington then my Springfield XD in 45 caliber is on my side.

when recommending a pistol thats opening a huge can a worms. All I will say is pick a budget look at the guns in that budget and buy the one that feels best to you. Also pick a caliber you can handle. Just because you own a 45 doesn't mean you can hit something with it.

Always have my M&P .40 on my side, no matter what I'm hunting or where I'm going.

If you have a rifle with you, what are you protecting yourself against with a pistol? A pistol is worse at everything than almost any rifle (.22 excepted) or shotgun except being portable.

For hunting I have a Ruger GP100 .357 Mag with a 6 inch barrel. For personal defense I like my Glock 23 (.40 caliber) and my Fiancee has a Springfield XD 9mm sub-compact that I like a lot. Not that anyone asked but I like to tell it anyway...I hunt with a Marlin 336 lever action in a .35 Rem.

If you are walking through the woods with a deer rifle, and a pack of hogs or even a snake are right in front of you, it is much easier to pull out a pistol and squeeze off 6-8 rounds much faster than pullin up your rifle, aiming, firing, reloading (most are bolt action), and firing again. I think most people carry pistols in the woods to be able to get off a lot of shots in a short period of time, if the situation arises.

I always bring a pistol on a deer hunt. My last buck a 9pt had to be finished off with my .45 damn thing jumped up when I got close.

As I acquire new pistols my carry pistol keeps changing when I'm hunting. It used to be my Ruger Mk 2 .22, then it was the .38 revolver my dad gave me, then it was a cheap Star .45 1911. Now if I carry anything at all its my Taurus 24/7 .40, just because thats the gun thats in my truck. I may carry my wife's .380 Bersa this year because it's alot lighter and smaller.

I bring my 44 Mag with me when I track wounded deer. Every now and then I'll bring my 40 FNH with me to shoot some armadillos.
