I can't believe and am a little disappointed that the Judge hasn't been mentioned on the 1st page.

I own both 9 and 40. For a beginner looking to get range time, I suggest the 9. I suggest you go to the range with a few people to try them out before buying one - or you can rent at some ranges.
Cant go wrong with the glock 17 or 19 or the Springfield XD9. They are both considered reliable, reasonably priced and available most anywhere

that can be bought for 450-650.00.
These are even cheaper. Don't know about there quality though. S&W revolvers are nice. I honestly know nothing about MP series pistols. Other than they are ALWAYS at Academy for cheap.

A revolver is simpler to use for someone not used to guns. Autos require training for when something goes wrong.
A .22 is the best for learning to shoot well.

I happen to be an EXPERT at pistol SHOPPING. The key for me is to circle pistol counters for over a year at many different locations. Go to budsgunshop.com about a million times. THEN when your neighbor says "Hey man you wanna buy my brothers old 9mm?" You buy it.

if you are new then don't worry about something more simple to use. Auto is not tougher to learn.
Like driving. I learned on a manual not auto. Now I can drive both.

I just started looking at these myslef. Probbably in a 9mm though because I already have 2 .40s. Looks like a nice pistol.

Look too much like a Phaser. As in, "Set Phasers to stun."

pinions on what's a good gun to have and somewhat simple to keep up.
Buy a Glock or a Springfield XD. They are simple to operate, don't require much maintenance, and you can put pretty much any kind of cheap shitty ammo you can find through them (although I wouldn't suggest doing this).
ETA: If you literally have 0 experience with handguns and no one to teach you, you should probably find a safety class to take.

Could be the most awesome, durable, accurate pistol ever. Still looks like a phaser.

I would stay away from Taurus Semi-auto's
Just out of curiosity, why do most people on here seem to dislike Taurus? I have one and have never had any complaints with it.

Triggers aren't that great, they were known to have problems in the past, and terrible resale.
To name a few.

Had a Taurus 9mm that had to be sent back for a firing issue. That is the only problems I have ever had with one though.

This is definitely true.

to the OP, i bought a S&W sigma 40 for 300 at academy. i love it and it does what i need it to do: the same thing you are buying yours for. i would suggest shooting what you want to buy before purchasing it.
