Spent the last week in western Kentucky with my dad and a couple buddies as we do every year. Couldnt have asked for better weather as it was in the teens every morning and the highs were 30s in the day. The bucks were chasing, and we had a nice mixture of soybean fields and the most beautiful hardwoods you could imagine

I was sitting in the stand one morning and was looking around and noticed what I thought was a shed up under a downed trees roots in the dried up creek bed behind me. I got down after my hunt and went to grab it, immediately realizing it wasnt a shed, and had the skull attached. The rest was burried in 6-8" of mudd and I dug until I could free it. Ended up being a nice little souvenier to bring home.

Had a nice little 2.5 year old chasing a doe all under my stand one afternoon. Its crazy when the rut is on, they dont have a care in the world, and only one thing on their mind. I could have hopped out and rode him lol.

We got came back to the camp after our morning hunt on day 3, pulled some cards and had a nice buck with a split g2 that had came in that morning at 10:30. I immediately said this was the one I was after. And planned to hunt that spot the next morning in the woods. I got up, and it was 17 degrees, got dressed up warm, and headed to the stand to see if he would make that same route again. Got in the stand at 6am, and by 6:30 sure enough he popped up not 20yds from me. Ended up taking the shot at 10yards with my 270wsm, and the rest was history. Rarely does a plan work exactly like you draw it up, but all the stars aligned and it did that day for me. Until next year Kentucky!

That area looks very familiar to where I used to hunt. You don’t happen to be around murray do you?

Awesome buck by the way. Love it when things follow script (weather, rut, etc)

I’m trying to go to KY next year. My sister lives outside of Louisville so may hit up Taylorsville WMA and some family land up there.

Naw, we know a landowner up there. And have been hunting with him since 2013 for a week of rifle season. He has a spare trailer he lets us set up camp in on the place. He has around 700 acres, that are spread out around a 10mile area. Great little setup. We have always done pretty well and have a blast

If you have never been go! Its beautiful up there. Ive hunted missouri, ky, ohio... and nothing tops western ky. Seems like a deer hunting paradise. Also their public land is awesome from what i hear.

Not trying to sound like an arse but take advice that was given to me a while back. Stick the tongue back in the mouth as soon as you get to deer. Makes pictures look better. JMO

Congrats man! We are fortunate to have some land in Hopkins county (two counties East of Lyon) and it’s pretty incredible the quality of deer hunting there.
Thanks for sharing the pics and story, looks like a great time. Hope you get to hunt up there often.

Looks like a good hunt, is that someplace you normally go or just a one time deal?
