I lease 2k acres of marsh that's pretty good fishing. I couldn't care less if someone fishes on it. Just don't drop anchor in my duck pond during duck season and we won't have a problem.
you mean your dad right?

It's a big topic of discussion on the OT also. Comes down to duck hunters vs fishermen
Actually it comes down to landowners and people who want to fish on those landowners' property for free.

If I own a piece of land and dig a pond, should anyone be able to come fish in the pond or do I own it?
State law says that if money from the state is used on said pond then yes you must provide public access.
There is a 10 acre pond behind my property that LADWLF told us would have to become public if we asked them to spend money to stock it. Only property owners that have land on the lake have lake access as well. But we allow kids from other homes to use it without pulling a gun on them in a state of drunken rage.

My dad what? No he doesn't own the lease. It's $500 for my share split between several guys

Blatantly obvious you have no clue what you're talking about!!!! The tax payers are paying to save the so called "land" (thats now covered by water). But the land owners want to have it private. If you want it private, cut all taxpayer money for restoration and you can gate off and lease your heart out. BUT, If my tax dollars are paying to keep this marsh up why should I be denied access to use it???

The taxpayers leveed the river preventing natural restoration so the way I see it, the taxpayers owe the landowners.

How is it any different than a road? If you want your road to be private you pay for all upkeep.
If your road on your land is improved upon by the state it's open to all.
If your road on your land is improved upon by the state it's open to all.

If everyone would just be respectful this really wouldn't be an issue. but people are jackasses that like to infringe on others.

The river being leveed is costing people acres that they pay taxes on and own. It's a little different than a road having potholes.

If this passed, all these ponds and tranoses would be opened up to anyone that wanted to go back there. So I could be duck or deer hunting and someone could come riding their boat and sit in my pond while I'm trying to hunt.
Louisiana is different than every other state in the lower 48. Everywhere else though are public waterways. The only way you can own a body of water is if you own every bit of land that that body of water touches.
quote:
I understand the frustrations but land owners have rights. Just because water is there it isn't free.
No but the water is part of the public waterways.
quote:
Deer and ducks are "owned" by the state. Just because a deer wanders onto land that I own, it doesn't mean that you have the right to hunt and kill it; that goes for bass too.
True, but everywhere else in the south you can't own that water.
What it really comes down to is this, 'Do the people of Louisiana want to be able to own waterways?'
My example while extreme illustrates a good point. Would you be okay if I bought 100 yards of the canal on either side of your gates or dams and blocked it off?

that would be wild. block off the mouth of the canal and people in the back can't get to their lease

That'd be no different than land-locking someone. You have to provide access.
Posted on 1/26/17 at 7:32 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
And yet most areas are dredged by the oil companies to profit the landowners. That is just as much to blame as levees built by the army corp not the state which is entirely different tax pool.

So how does erosion in lower Calcasieu occur?

who the hell downvoted me for bowfishing?
I swear, if whoever did it has a lease, im going shoot up all of your redfish

That part just melts everyone's mind.
The whole SE Louisiana is navigable by air boat.

I'm willing to be there is road access touching the property somewhere.
It's besides the point though. Current Louisiana law allows you to block off waterways. Me and many others think that is a dumb law.
