I have the 820 version pit boss. It's great for utility cooking. Meaning it's an older version that just cooks at a certain temperature. It doesn't do wifi or bluetooth or handjobs. It just cooks.

I use it probably 4-5 times a week. Mostly as a grill for chicken/hamburger/pork chops. I've had 2 fires in it and had to replace the thermometer that tells the grill to turn on or off. It was easy and probably a $10 part off amazon. I had the fire because I had a completely full grill of ground beef hamburgers that were like 35% fat. So once they got to cooking and the heat recovering better... the whole thing just caught and I wasn't ready to put it out.

Other than that... I think all you're paying more for on most grills is the electronics. I got mine for $250 and was thinking it would last a few yrs... here I am on like year 5 and it won't die.

Recteq for the win. Not cheap, but quality product

Chinese just like camp chef, pit boss, traeger etc. If you want to step up to American quality, bust out the checkbook for Mak, Yoder, or Pitts n Spitts.

I have the Pro Series 1600. No complaints after 2 years and pretty heavy use. Never had a pellet jam nor any mechanical failures. It gets more than plenty hot for steaks, especially with hickory pellets.

I have a Green Mountain and I just can't seem to get any smoke flavor.

Been having the Jim Bowie model for 5 years now. I use a pellet tray from Amazon when I want extra smoke but for the most part I run it as is. Unless you get into a Yoder or some of the other high-end pellet grills, you'll have this "problem".

I also have 5 other pits/smokers so depending on what I'm smoking, that determines which one I use. The pellet is great for chicken or turkey, where most people don't enjoy a heavy smoke on.

But Green Mountain probably has some of the best customer support of any of them. That's why I chose them. And I've had to call them twice over the last five years and had a replacement part the very next day both times. And the last time, I was out of the warranty period by 6 months and they still covered it. The first time I called was on a Sunday and had the part Monday.

That being said, if the Masterbuilt gravity fed charcoal smoker had been out when I was looking at pellet grills, I never would have bought the Green Mountain. It out-performs a pellet in every way yet has the same ease of use. Look into those.
