re: Outboard motor cost?

I went through this in 2006. Bought a 24 dlx Carolina skiff and went with a 115 etec ( max 150 for 24 dlx). It was cheaper and I ain't gonna lie, that motor ran so great. I really loved that 115, but it was always in the back of my mind, what would the 150 be like? Well by 2008 I was swapping out the 115 for a 150. While the 150 isn't as smooth as the 115, I am still glad I upgraded. Top speed went from 44 to 52. And here is the kicker, there was no fuel penalty by going to the 150. My cruising speed is 30. The 115 pulled 4000 rpm to do that. The 150 only needs about 3000 to do it. A trip to my duck camp and back burns about same amount of fuel( slight edge to 115, but splitting hairs). Point I am trying to make is get the max if you can. I think you will be a lot happier even if the price is a lil hard for you to swing.

Do yourself a favor and check with Breaux & Daigle in Pierre Part. The AlumaCrafts are great boats, and they have the best prices on Yamaha's period! I own an Xpress 18, and have been pleased, but am more impressed with the AlumaCraft.
I bought my rig there a 1650 with an f40. Nice people.

I completely understand and agree. I apply that exact logic to trucks.
However, what does your 24' Carolina weigh? It's got to be a decent amount more than a 20' aluminum hull. I just can't see the 115 being all that bad. Especially for my first boat.

That is exactly what I am looking for, with a side console. Ball park how much did that run you?

Bought in 2012, just under 13 with ttl- with SC, PT prop, and Bimini.

I have officially fallen in love with that boat
Same. I will probably get one in 2 years and turn it into a redfishing machine.

What kind of special could he be talking about?
Could be an extended warranty. When I bought my boat in October Yamaha was running a promotion where any new 4 stroke outboard came with a 6 yr warranty. Was part of the reason I went with yammy over merc

I honestly don't know what the weight is. I know it's not apples to apples, but just wanted to let you know my experience. It cost me more in the long run. I should have just bought 150. If I remember correctly, I ended up spending about an extra 3,000 doing it the way I did. You live and learn lol

Very true. However Xpress sneaks the 115 yellow sticker on the H20B so you think it's maxed out but if you get with the 150hp they will put the new sticker on there. h20 is only rated for a 150 with hydro steering

What is the boards thought on a Caorlina skiff? I am itching bad for a bay boat but with my work industries current condition that purchase is a ways off. The Carolina's are a good bit cheaper than most bay boats I would assume. I am assuming it beats the shite out of you in some chop? Would be used to fish around Dulac and LakeP and surrounding area.

When I bought from Breaux and Daigle Yamaha had a double factory warrantee on the motor. Turns out the trim motor went out 2 weeks before it ended. 400$ part alone.
Hardly ever get lucky, but that was nice.

Great. Thanks. I am ready to buy probably next week, but it would be dumb to not wait until July 1st. I asked again today and he wouldnt say what the new special is.

I'm sure that's part of the deal, I'd wait and I know it's hard.
