sit-ins are not ideal for kayak fishing.
Will have to disagree with ya on this one. . . had a Native Ultimate tandem kayak for years before moving to pedals. I still think it is the perfect kayak for fishing our marshes here in LA. It tracks well, is extremely stable and easy to stand in, paddles easily and you can bring as little or as much gear with you as you want!
In addition to that particular SINK, the Wilderness Commander and Jackson Kilroy are two other ideal sit in kayaks.
They do have limitations of course. One is bad weather. Whatever water comes inside stays inside until you take it out. Normally this is a non-issue and nothing a simple sponge won't take care of. But I 've been out in some whitecaps and taken a few waves over the side. . . it can get a little scary in a SINK.

quote:Yes. It's basically a high tech canoe.
As far as sit in is concerned, I LOVE their Commander.
Is that considered a sit-in?

I think they're sort of considered a kayak/canoe hybrid. Alot like the Native Ultimate.
Ultimate

Ultimate

The commander is a "hybrid". It is a single layer hull like a sit in, but completely open. It is a great boat, the only drawback is that it does not have scupper holes. I have had mine for 3 years and I love it.
Extremely versatile.

I think he is talking about the more traditional sit in kayaks (pungo), versus the hybrids like the commander and ultimate.

Ya see, I didn't know those types of kayaks were considered sit-in. I thought sit-in were the type shown below, that don't have any deck space.
And everything else with an open deck layout was considered sit-on.
ETA: My "not ideal for fishing" comment was directed towards the type of kayak pictured above. Those Ultimates look nice and I've heard good things about them.

I have been in some hairy shite and never been scared, until I went to Delacroix. Myself, VanRich and his buddy got caught in a storm coming back in to Sweetwater. There were damn near rollers in the channel, I cant believe we didnt flip.
If I had a true SOT with scuppers I would not have been as worried.

What size paddle will I need for Ascend Fs12t? I'm 5'10 so would I need 230cm or 240cm since it's a wide kayak? Thanks

How wide is the new one? Definitely go wide as possible. I recommend the Werner Skagit Hooked

240 for sure.
If you can find an adjustable paddle in your price range I would highly recommend it.

Too short sucks
That's what she said.
I think 240 is the way to go.

As others have already stated, 240cm would probably work well.

I'm 5'8" and used a 240 with the ascend.
