Anyone reloading 300 BO? If so, what are some good bullet options for hunting/self defense? Both sub and super. Thinking of jumping into reloading and that would probably be the first round I truly try to play around with outside of just making target rounds.

The Lehigh 194 gr max expansion bullet is the best. It’s pricy. Look at my link a few post above. You can buy the loaded ammo at CTD for what the bullets cost. I have killed a ton of hogs with it. My son killed 2 does at 70 yards.

Hey guys I’m new to this thread and will be purchasing my first AR next week. I have a bunch of questions around accessories for my AR. It’ll be used for hog hunting / deer hunting and just shooting for fun. Any help is appreciated.
1. Suppressors - best brands and what to expect. Do I need any special attachment for the end of the barrel.
2. Red dots / flash lights - what are the benefits and why I do or don’t need or want them.
3. Night vision sights - brands and differences.
4. Legs - worth the extra weight benefits and drawbacks.
TIA

I would suggest getting a 30 cal can. You can always use it for any round less than 30 cal. Silencerco makes good stuff. Look at the omegas. The 300 DT would be a good one. It uses the ASR mounting system. I prefer the Q mounting system. You can buy the adapter from Q and then get a Rearden muzzle device to match.

Man you jumping off deep into it lol. I would say maybe hold off on suppressors and night optics until you know a little more about what you want.
You’re throwing a lot of big $$ stuff out there but get the gun first then go from there.
I may be an unpopular opinion giver here but I don’t love the thoughts of deer hunting with an ar15. I know plenty people done it but doesn’t mean it’s the best thing.
If you really want something for hunting a large frame ar10 in 308 is probably the route you want to go.
You would be shocked what you can get into a PSA 18” stainless barrel 308 for. Spend a little more could do their Sabre line. Or if not wanting psa tier stuff a stag10 or aero would be good options I like 18” ar10 308.
If wanting less of a hunting gun and more of a fun shooting gun a 5.56 ar15 is the way to go. More economical to shoot and just good to have one anyway. Tough to beat a BCM upper thrown on any bought or built lower for the $/quality. If not wanting to spend that money and the gun seeing only occasional casual shooting a mid length gas 16” stainless barrel PSA is untouched in the economy realm.
Whatever you buy get an Mlok free float rail.
Whatever you do buy atleast 6 pmags. 30 round if 556 20 round if 308. They are as cheap as they will ever be.
I love suppressors and recommend them To everyone. I agree no mater you do get a 30 cal can. Lots of good options.
For night optics I would wait to see how your actually going to use the gun. If you find yourself with lots of oppurtunity to do some nighttime pig hunting then sure do some research and buy according to your budget.
When you say legs I’m assuming you mean bipod. I’ve swapped over to the magpul sling mount quick detach bipod and it is the goat because it is one of the few ways you can easily put on and take off bipod without tools.

Want to do an A4 build, I've got an old GWOT-era KA fore end and covers in a box collecting dust.
Posted on 8/20/24 at 7:37 pm to Clames
You would be surprised how much those are worth now. I picked mine up for $200 and it was a steal
Posted on 8/21/24 at 12:59 am to Clames
An M5 RAS can vary between $150-$400 depending on condition, brand (KAC/P+S), and whether it has rail covers/vert grip or not.
An A4 is sexy as hell.
An M4A1 Block 1 and Block 2 is just as sexy.
QUAD GANG!!!

About to start on a new 18” 5.56 build. I have been buying stuff on sale this year. Bought the Billet Wilson Combat upper lower set 2 weeks ago for $130 OTD. I have a 18” Larue Predat Barrel I paid $140 for it. I should be able to get in this one for under $850 sans glass. A buddy gave me a brand new BCM BCG he wasn’t using.

Humane range for an 223/556 M4 platform to kill a deer is about 100 yds. After that, the kinetic energy goes to inhumane levels. Sure, you could still probably take down most deer in the south at 200+ yds with an M4, but why?
As stated, just buy a 556 for protection/range fun and LR 308/Ar10 for hunting.
Armalite actually makes a really good, semi-budget Ar10 w/ stainless Bartell for about $1000-1500.After that, you get into LMT territory.
For real budget, though, PSA is hard to beat. Would I trust them forever? No, but also most Hunter-only platforms shoot about 30 rds a year, max...

Or even better, a small frame 308. I’ve been out of the AR game for probably 5-6 years, and my buddy was selling an almost brand new Ruger SFAR 308, so I decided to buy it. Everybody needs at least 1 lol
Right now, I have a Griffin Bushwhacker 46 on it, but I have a Silencerco Omega 300 DTM in suppressor jail that is going to go on it.
I need to put some optics on it. I’m looking at a Trijicon accupoint 2.5-12.5x42 on a trijicon Q-loc mount, with my trijicon RMRcc mounted on top of the scope ring. Just need an extra $1,500 first lol

Finally truly finished my 300 BLK build with my suppressor coming in. Aero Upper/Lower/Handgaurd, 8.2" Roscoe barrel, KAK downvent BCG, Geissele trigger, Law Tactical folder, Q Trash Panda can.
My first suppressed gun and first experience with subsonic suppressed shooting. Such a strange, but awesome shooting experience never having done it before.
