Did the stencils come numbers so you know which cutouts to use when? Or is it a figure out as you go type thing? Freedom stencils numbers the sheets

Start with the smaller ones first and then go bigger.

Last question:

What paint did you use?

I've painted two of mine. I used Krylon Camo paint, I think it's Krylon.

It's still a bitch to get the D-ring off, though, unless you have the D-ring tool, but it's not a necessity.

Honestly, I'd just look into a Troy free float handguard that uses the same barrel nut.

Are you saying that there's a free float option that doesn't require removing the D ring?

you're still required to remove the front sight base since they don't offer a cutout version. plus, you're relying on the barrel nut to be to be set at a true 12 o'clock position in relation to the gas tube alignment and there is a slight tolerance there. this could lead to a misaligned rail system.

instead of it being at 12:00, it could be at 11:59.

So old Finchmeister got me thinking about different options.

What's your opinion on mating something like a BCM complete upper with the M&P 15 lower on my rifle? Some quick googling shows that there should be no fitment issues.

Or I could get at PSA Upper for half the price.

ETA: or I just buy and entire PSA rifle for $470. Which is appealing, because I could leave the M&P stock, and do mods to the PSA without feeling too bad about it.

Yeah. I'm not going through all that.

you will eventually.

that's how it will starts.

add a drop in rail.

realize it's not good enough.

buy a new free float option.

then think "well, if i have the barrel out, might as well get a new barrel as well."

then you're snowballing into bigger and better things.

Do that.

Then remove the flip up sights and put them in a drawer.

Then look in the drawer a week later and it will turn into a new upper. Then buy another lower.

And now you got 3. Wash rinse repeat.

this guy probably hasn't even shot the one he was gifted and he's already talking about getting a new rifle.

in my opinion, he should go shoot the one he's got and get acquainted with it.

find out what he loves/hates about it.

then buy a new one with the features he wants or build it out of the gun he has.
