I've popped in on this thread from time to time but haven't followed it extremely closely.

What's the AR folks opinion on Palmetto State parts/assemblies/built rifles?

I've read a bunch of other forums and review sites about them and they seem to be well received for bargain price deals. I've purchased a few pistols from them before and had great buying experiences with them.

Here's the items I'm looking at:

PSA 16" STAINLESS STEEL 5.56 NATO 1/7 MIDLENGTH 13.5" LIGHTWEIGHT KEYMOD UPPER - WITH BCG & CH

PSA AR-15 COMPLETE BLEM LOWER MAGPUL MOE EDITION

Don't get a stainless steel barrel. Get a Melonite/Nitride one instead. Will last a lot longer as the how gasses in that little 223/556 round will errode the bore out of the stainless much quicker than a melonite/nitride barrel. About twice as quick from what I've read. If you like to shoot it doesn't take long to get into the ~4-5k round range where the stainless starts to really show effects of errosion.

Damn... I really like the stainless look though...

So you'd prefer something like this? This one is a 20"

Or this one if I want to stick with 16"

I have two PSA lowers receivers, there's no difference between those and any other ones you can find. Don't have any other PSA parts though.

Nope. Not the m16 or m4

FN does make the belt fed automatic weapons for the military though. m249SAW and 50cal

Here is a contract from 2013 awarded to FN for 10,000 M4s LINK

I know they also got a joint contract with Colt in 2015.

ETA: Source for current contract running until 2020 LINK

Colt Defense LLC, West Hartford, Connecticut (15QKN-15-D-0102); and FN America LLC, Columbia, South Carolina (W15QKN-15-D-0072), were awarded a $212,000,000 firm-fixed-price multi-year contract for M4 and M4A1 carbines for the Army and others, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 24, 2020. Bids were solicited via the Internet with six received. Funding and work location will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity.

Details about the bids are limited. The most recent M4 contract, awarded to FN exclusively in 2013, was for $77 million with an order for 120,000 rifles. These guns are to replace aging and used rifles that have seen a lot of use.

If you want stainless get stainless. Just wanted you to be aware of it's limitations. I own a stainless barreled AR myself chosen 100% strictly for the aesthetics.

Right. But you stated that you thought FN made all US military rifles now.
And they don't.

I guarantee you that the Marine Corps is still using the Colt m16 & m4 service rifle. And they will probably continue to use them for a long time

FN does make great automatic weapons though

Colt still MAKES the m16 and m4 service rifles for the military

How do you not understand this?

Could have sworn our new m16a4 was made by fn, but that was 7 years ago and I dont really remember.

Just remember "breaking" them in with a couple mag dumps.

There are multiple manufacturers, they don't replace everything at once.

Most major players have some sort of contract.

They might. I've never seen one while I was an active duty Marine though.

The article I read says that Colt & FN were both afforded contracts.

You stated that you thought that FN made ALL the US military rifles now.

And that is just not true. Not sure where you got that info
