I see where 2" receiver is rated at 10k lbs and 2.5" is rated for 15k

37 contender is 8,000lbs dry. Add fuel and ice and he's over 10,000lbs....Shoulda gone with the bigger hitch.

Just imagine if that happened while going up on the overpass. The vehicles behind it would have been screwed.

500 gallons of fuel...
Plus motors.

Dudes been getting lucky if he's been using an under rated hitch

That looks like someone didn't understand simple physics. Spacer inside a spacer.

Anyone want to take bets that the next phase of expanding the gateway and tying into that 90 never happens?
ill take that bet right now.

The design was awarded and underway, and the construction is already funded.

The use of the sleeve spacer is very common. Not sure why people are acting like he rigged something up... There had to be multiple reason why this happened. I'm sure driver error and loose straps were in play.

Quote from THT
quote:

The receiver hitch snapped. Boat was full of fuel. No ice yet. Not sure what the receiver is rated for, but likely not rated high enough. 36 contender.

Is that a 1-1/4 hitch put into a 2" receiver with a spacer?

3/4 ton trucks come with 2-1/2" receiver and have a 2" sleeve inserted. 2" probably not rated to tow over 10k lbs

I'm 29, if that stupid 90 degree turn is connected to 90 before I die I'd be surprised.

there isn't much land and the bridge had to follow the same route as the old bridge. I really don't have a problem with it.

It doesn't look like he was using straps either, but that's not what caused the accident just what caused the boat to slide forward off the trailer.

If he would of had straps on, I'd be curious if the whole thing would of flipped. Straps are great to keep the boat on the trailer, but trailers are top heavy with boats on them and often flip in situations like this.

that is interesting. you are most likely correct. would it have rolled off the bridge?
