Small common dolphin are also called chicken dolphin but it's not correct

Learn something new everyday. I always thought chicken Dolphin were just smaller versions of the big bulls that actually put up a hell of a fight on larger tackle when trolling a weed line.

I don't know about you, Mr. Wayne, but A) I don't eat the dolphin with a blow hole, and 2) those dolphins aren't blue and green.

They are, most likely. The second species is pompano dolphin. Never seen one caught.
My tablet will not let me paste links or pics in the right place, so I'll follow up with another post.

This page highlights the differences between the two species. Here's a pompano dolphin,

I don't recall ever catching one of those. The chicken dolphin we catch all look like mini-bulls and them suckers will hit anything. We usually chum them up on a weed line and get a herd of them under the boat and then start catching. They race each other to get to a lure. Fun as shite.

Yep a big school dolphin will smoke the shite out of a trout reel, makes a redfish look slow.

We catch some nice Dorado down on the Pineallas Reef. Several times we have caught big Kingfish smokers if we are troll cigar minnows.

I learned that the hard way. It was a blast to catch them but regretted keeping so many.

Hook one and keep it on the line, but don’t reel it in. If there is a big one around, he will investigate.

I believe they have a fairly short lifespan and grow rapidly.

When is the best time of year to go after them or is it a year round fishery?

Only time I have caught them is on weedlines in the Summer months out of Freeport but I only offshore fish in the GOM in the Summer and Fall so there is that.
