When is the best time of year to go after them or is it a year round fishery?

I’ve found them at all times of the year. Just look for healthy weedlines in blue water and they’ll be there. Just troll along parallel to the line and flip shiny slabs with feather tails under the line. Green, yellow and blue work best for us. They’ll find it if they’re there.

Hook one and keep it on the line, but don’t reel it in.

First time I went salt water fishing with my uncle I hooked what I thought to be a nice size one. He told me to open the bail for a second then close it and put the rod in the gunnel holder. I thought he was f-ing with me. It paid off though. Hooked 2 more bigger than mine but damn that was a hard concept for an 11 year old first timer to learn.
