Any info on this hunting spot in Nola east? Private land? Is discharging a firearm not illegal in the city limits?

Looks like a nice setup

it's legal there - it was owned by chalmette meadows land corp. was leased by a friend of mine for 30 years.

last year it was sold new landowner - no lease - but very private - they will prosecute - even fishermen. and I would not chance trespassing there - the land manager gets a bonus for every trespasser he and his underlings catch. The group that bought it bought up 22k total acres - they are making it very clear - IT IS FOR THEIR USE ONLY...... also that area may have the highest concentration of cane break rattlers of anywhere

22k acres? Wow. That much? I cant get google maps to to create an area that is 22k acres big. Must be land off in other areas I guess

I do agree about the rattlers

Anybody know why they don't allow hunting in Bayou Sauvage besides youth duck hunts? Seems like its the only NWR in the area that doesn't...and I know there's a ton of hogs back there because I see them along Hwy 90 almost everytime I pass through that area.

I know people that hunt Bayou Sauvage via a so called back door route that they say is not tecnicaly Bayou Sauvage. Something to do about the old exits is all I'll say. I don't quite think it's as legal as they claim. But, they do so each year.

As a kid, used to shoot the shite out of the ducks. That was way back in the 1970's. Used to be some outstanding crabbing. You had to used a trot line set up due to the fact the crabs were to big for nets.

it is not- not even close and now with new land owner - will not fly.

the reason it was made illegal in early 80s was jackasses going out there shooting at rabbits with 30.06s and such.

Gotcha about the landowner area.

I was talking about hunting off the interstate with my I don't quite think it's as legal as they claim quote.

They claim the old exits are federal right of ways (old interstate) and not actually Bayou Sauvage property.

The piece of property (lot 35) you are pointing at is owned by Rhino Timber Farms, L.L.C., a company owned by the same people that own Durr Heavy Equipment.

Definitely private land, I'd stay off of it.

ETA: All of the other vacant land around that area (outside of lot 35 - the specific one you are pointing at) is owned by Harvey Canal Holdings II, LLC, which is owned by the same people. Probably about 1,500 acres total in there.

I don't know about that area but the City of New Orleans owns about 20,000 acres in Lower Lafourche around Port Fourchon..... anyone know if you can hunt that?

He MIGHT be onto something...on the Bayou Sauvage brochure's map it shows the area between the interstate and the exit ramps not being part of the refuge and OnX shows the same but no owner data. But that area looks like mostly water and doesn't look like a big enough area to get far enough distance from the interstate.

ETA: far enough away from interstate so as not to be illegally hunting too close to a roadway...and if the closed down exit ramps are still considered federal right of way, then he'd have to be a certain distance from that also, right?
