Nilgai are tough animals. And their skin is very elastic, hence no bleeding. I hunt them with 300 WSM. 180 gr. Berger Elite Hunter.
Good shot placement and they usually don’t run very far.
Some really good table fare, by the way.

pretty sure this Nilgai took 3 lung/neck shots from a .300 Win Mag before expiring. 2 of the Barnes TSX bullets below

one of my employees shot one and brought me a bunch of meat. The stuff I cooked smelled and tasted like a barnyard. Maybe it was handled poorly

That was a big bull. Way maxed my 550lb scale and took 3 180 Barnes bullets out of a .300 win mag at about 80 yards. No pass throughs and no blood trail.

Man dont over think it. Ive killed 3 over the years. 2 with a .270 150gr power points and 1 with a .308 don't remember the bullet. all were pass thrus and jelly insides. None of the 3 made it 60-75 yards.

I’ve seen a 30-30 at 90 yards drop a bull in his tracks.

You could drop one with a .22 lr if you hit it in the right spot. Doesn't mean you should though.
