Was told it would be a 6 mo wait, but a friend of mine (who's a dealer) scored it for me in one week!

Nice choice. I picked this up a couple months ago but haven't taken it out of the safe. Salesman tried to talk me into the 4" barrel but I couldn't pass on the 3". TNWSS

Super carry ultra +

Nice one.... Really like the night sights. That's the only thing the Ultra Crimson lacks, but I can always add those later.

My buddy told me that Kimber adjusts the laser at the factory, and it's usually pretty damn accurate. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Only experience I have with crimson trace is the foregrip on my AR. It moves around a lot but I chalked that up to the free float rail. I'm sure a laser integrated into the grip would hold true. Happy shooting.

I want a 1911 so bad, but can't decide if I want a full sized one or a compact. Any suggestions? I really wouldn't be carrying it, but I like the idea of it smaller. Are there any cons to the compacts?

It really depends on what you will be using it for. If its simply going to be a range gun then the full sized would be fine. I've heard that the compacts have a little more kick due to their lighter weight, epically when using the +P ammo.

Just snag a full sized. You can shoot them all day long with comfort and control. The extra sight radius also makes your shots more accurate. Compacts and subcompacts are generally harder to shoot since the sight radius is shorter and recoil is harder. I dropped over 1k on this Smith and Wesson tactical and don't regret it for a second. (Try not to notice the vibrator-looking object in the background.)

And to the OP, my uncle has a TLE 2 with CT grips. They are damn accurate. My dad and I tested them at the range and within about 50 feet it was dead on. I think you're gonna enjoy your piece.

The most affordable American 1911s are the Ruger SR1911 (around $650-700ish) or the Remington R1 (around $650-$700ish). If you don't care about where it's built, you could check out Rock Island Armory. They have an officer or commander model on Bud's for a little over $400. That's a pretty cheap price for a .45 ACP 1911.

I've got this. It has an extra wide mag well with double stacked 10 and 14 round mags. Mine supposedly is an early production run with a Springfield Armory slide. Great shooting gun. The wife even likes to shoot it.

Sounds like you need to look for a "Commander" size 1911. The "GI" (also referred to as full size) 1911 has a 5" barrel. The "Officer" (also called compact) size 1911 has a 3-3 1/2" barrel and a grip that's slightly shorter than the full size. The in between size is the Commander. It has a 4-4 1/2" barrel w/ same size grip as the GI.

ETA: Some 1911 experts claim that as one shortens the slide of the 1911 from the original 5", the rate of "problems" increase. These same folks say the Commander sized runs better than the Officer size. OTOH, you can find a number of folks who claim otherwise. I'm NOT a 1911 expert, but my 2 (both of which are smaller than the full size) have run well.
