I've used the Keen and Merrell mentioned above. I really like the Keen better, but the Merrell is a much better fit on my foot, so I get Merrells.

Pack & Paddle in Lafayette is south of I-10, on Pinhook near the airport. Got my Keen's there!

Amazon prime buddy. Ordered my Danner work boots from there. Try on and return if you don't like them.

It's looking that way. I gotta make a trip back to Praireville to see some family. I will check out the Backpacker in BR before I order from Amazon or REI.

I know a lot of different shoe/boot manufactures have different sizes...ie what may be a size 9 in one name brand boot may be a size 10 in another name brand boot.

Find something comfortable. Most hiking boots you don't find at the discount store are good. Find what fits and works for the hikes you take.

dallas shouldn't be too much farther or pretty much the same distance as BR. We have REI here and that would undoubted be the best bet for hiking boots.

Yeah, it's really odd how they size boots. I wear a 12EE in Red Wings, and an 11D in Justins.

If you're buying online, a few companies allow you to buy two pair and ship back the one that doesn't fit for free

You know you can order direct from danner.com.

ETA I'm wearing a pair of Danners on the Tongariro Crossing tomorrow in New Zealand.
