New Fish Finder

Good morning OB. My last trip to Lake Palourde resulted in my trolling motor transducer being ripped off after coming in too hot on some hidden branches. Now the unit itself is flipping out and needs to be replaced, and I'm looking for some suggestions.
Both units are Lowrance 3x's. As you can deduce from that, I don't use electronics to catch fish, and the only thing I really use(d) it for is temperature and depth.
I'm not interested in any of this new hot technology with forward facing sonar or anything elaborate. Side imaging has peaked my interest, as I think that it's something I would use if I had it. So, I'm looking at possibly upgrading to the smallest unit I can get with side imaging, which seems to be the 7 inch class. I don't use or need mapping or GPS, but I'm not against having it. It doesn't look like you can get a side imaging unit without it.
Outside of my admittedly limited familiarity with Lowrance's line up, I have zero point of reference for any other brands. For example, I understand the Lowrance hook reveal 7 would be in my wheelhouse, but I have no clue what the comparable Hummingbird or Garmin unit would be, and I'd rather be sure I consider all options for deciding on one.
Anyone have any feedback or guidance they can offer? TIA

IMO, HB has the best side imaging , and I run HB and Garmin units.

I have it and don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would. Not sure how you fish, but for what I really need sonar for (toledo bend and snapper fishing) I use down imagining or chirp sonar the most. I've gotten some really cool looking images on sidescan before but I've never been able to translate it into useful information. It's too hard to get the color palates right, figure out where that thing you saw really was, figure out if it had fish on it or not...
I really only use sidescan to show my buddies how cool it is. My actual fish targeting is done with normal sonar.

Take out a loan and buy the newest and greatest depth finders.
Then in 9 months you can be depressed when the newer models come out.

I have Carbons too. Do you have AT 1 or 2?

This helps. I fish 95% bayou black, 5% lake verret area and lake boeuf / des Allemands. Mainly less than 6 feet in grassy canals and marsh, so chirp doesn’t do me much good. My thinking is that with side imaging I could at least get a view out to the sides of the canals I’m trolling down and casting toward. If I had side imaging I could see myself utilizing the unit to much more of its potential, without it, a basic sonar unit will do.
