I'm down to 3 (just for hunting purposes in the U.S.)

6mm Remington (small to medium) Deer, Antelope etc
7mm Remington Magnum (medium to large) Elk, Moose, etc
338 Winchester Magnum (large and dangerous) Grizzly, Brown Bear, Polar bear

If you only can afford 1 gun, then go with the 338 Winchester Magnum and you've got everything in America covered from A to Z.

How is the 5.7 not a better fit for this role? Smaller diameter, can fit wayyyy more in the gun, likely just as effective

Someone wants to start a new caliber to to make some serious cash.

IF there was a way to fit this bullet into a pocket carry LCP, I’d give it a year to see how the gun holds up and then I’d replace the .380.

But that’s not a reality. They’ll need beefier guns to hold up to a tweener 9mm.

It’s it’s physics and preference that combat market supply/demand.

This whole energy idea with handgun rounds has become sales tactics. Google "Handgun Wounding Factors and Effectiveness” by FBI Special Agent Urey Patrick. He goes extensively into the idea that bullet energy from common handgun calibers (typically not your magnums) plays little part in incapacitating a person. It is the momentum of the bullet that crushes and cuts through organs, arteries, etc. Energy does not equal momentum.

ETA: Magnums and rifle rounds have enough energy to cause damage from temporary cavity wounds.

Probably hang around but like .357 Sig it will mostly be a niche round nobody asked for but will carry a loyal following.

What does equal momentum? Just speed?

Kinetic energy = 1/2(mass x velocity x velocity)

Momentum = mass x velocity

So, a heavier bullet will maintain its momentum better than a lighter and faster bullet, since the mass is constant, unless the bullet breaks up of course. Energy greatly depends on velocity, which handguns don't have much of.
You also have to factor in sectional density. A 150 grain 38 caliber bullet has a greater sectional density than a 150 grain bullet of a larger caliber. Think of the same mass, but one is shaped like a coin and the other a small rod. With all other things being equal, the rod would penetrate more, even though they are of the same mass. That's sectional density.

If it’s almost as good as a 9mm, why wouldn’t I just get the 9mm? What is the advantage?

It seems like they are trying to split the difference between 9mm and .380 Auto without giving up 9mm terminal performance. So really, until gun makers start producing guns optimized for 30 SC the only advantage it would have is an extra 2 rounds per magazine compared to existing micro 9's.

There isn’t a real advantage yet.

But if they can make an LCP-Like pistol that can shoot a 9mm-like round……game changer.

But I’m not interested in a g43 that can shoot a 30 super…..it HAS to be much lighter and pocket-able.

Or you may as well go g43 9mm. Nothing else makes sense.

I was surprised- hadn't been to academy in a couple of months- the gun cases were full, the ammo wasn't under lockdown at the register, it was all with the guns in the back.

It's in the post you responded to:

Yeah the Academy in Katy has done a good job getting ammo in stock and it’s all back with the gun stuff like normal.

Usually basic calibers available and of course plenty of 350 Legend for some reason.

Yep. A pocketable 6 rounder would get me interested.
