What are the lawsuits about? What issues are your friends having with their 3.0's? How many miles do they have on them? Why is your friend having to go get oil consumption tests at the 1000 mile mark?
One has qualified for a Lemon Law buyback I believe, I can check when I see him at work. I know he went 6-9 months without his truck while it sat at Gerry Lane.
The other guy is burning over a quart of oil every 1k miles. He has to go in and let them measure the oil on the dipstick every 1k miles. He has at least 20-30k miles on his and over a year old. He’s been fighting it since it was 6-8 months old.
I got rid of my 21 F150 and figured if I was going to pay the premium for diesel I just soon do it in a 3/4 ton. Seeing the numbers on the 6.2 verified that for me because I get the same mileage unloaded and assume would be the same or better towing. I think the 3.0 Duramax makes more sense power wise than the 3.0 Powerstroke did, but I think it is instantly negated if like most people around here, you go bigger tires and level then you’re right back to gasser fuel mileage at the fuel premium.

Not true….obviously it depends on tire size and driving conditions but leveling kit and 34’s on the highway will drop you to like 13-15 in a gasser, 23-25 in the 3.0. I do think the def consumption would go up with the extra load. Instead of 10 gal per 7,500 miles, it will likely be 5,000 miles.
I got 19 over 300 miles pulling a 12’ tandem axle pipe top trailer loaded down with a 54’ ztr and an atv.

We’ve done nothing other than regular maintenance on them. And we put pretty hard miles on them.
Regular maintenance is pretty extensive on those engines. The oil pump belt change has a book time of 16.8 hours for 4wd. That would be quite the labor bill not to mention several parts that have to be replaced during that service.
They have recently extended that service out though. Started at 115,000 miles then went to 150,000. New supplement shows 200,000.

I'm on my second 3.0, the first had 101k, 0 problems. I love the powertrain, great torque and I averaged around 28mpg with 36.4 being my "best". I'll keep buying them as long as their offered.

My brother has the duramax in a silverado and loves it. no issues and almost 100k miles. My brother in law bought my sister a tahoe with the same in it. zero issues.
Meanwhile my 2018 F-150 is on the second transmission with only 92,000 miles on it. Don't get me started on the gutless 5.0. I had an eco boost before this and regret buying the 5.0
I am not sure what my next vehicle will be.

quote:My 2018 Silverado came with that dumas AFM. I put a disabler on it and at 56k have had no trouble. I also put a thermostat by-pass in the 6L80 trans and it went from running @ 195 - 200 degrees to no more than 135. My next door neighbor has a 2019 with 600+k and he has not had 1 engine issue. 5.3 l.
The 5.3 and 6.2 have been ruined by the AFM

Glad you came to your senses.

New transmission at 75ishK and motor top end rebuild at 90ishK.
My next truck will be a F150 with the 5.0.
I would already have one if my truck wasn't paid for.

Gutless as you don't think it has enough power?
Must have never driven a 5.3 then.
I know too many people who have blown turbos when hauling with any frequency with the 3.5s.

I’ve got the 5.0 in my ‘22. Plenty of power with 35s. Overall great truck but liked the 6 speed in my 2016 way better than this 10.

Recently got an F150 tremor package and couldn't be happier. I got the 3.5 ecoboost. Plenty of HP and no problems towing camper

I have 156k on a 2020 Sierra x31.
Zero problems with it. I run it hard and I do construction work and farm.

I have had five trucks (mix of GMC and Chevys with the 5.3 in them. The 5.0 is hands down a better motor than any version on the 327 but lacking compared to my previous ecoboost.

Possibly it had a gutless 3.15 rear axle ratio.
3.73 is where it’s at with these engines.

Just got the '24 Sierra Elevation with the 3.0 about 4 weeks ago. Already got over 2k miles on it (trip to Tennessee was 1.5k), and my average fuel consumption since having it is over 28 mpg. I went from the 5.3 Silverado filling up every 3-4 days to now to 1-1/2 weeks.
It has great pulling power for what I need it for.

I have a 3.0 duramax too. Great fuel mileage . 40k miles with no issues. Pulls my boat easily. Fuel mileage does drop off on the interstate driving 75 ish. I can’t complain about a a full size 4x4 truck getting 25 mpg at that speed. I have 5 friends with the same engines. They haven’t had any issues either. Stay away from Facebook duramax groups.
