Never thought it'd be an 8" Redfish that got me.

Tight line fishing and caught a little redfish. Unhooking said redfish he jerked and the weight fell out of my hand. 2 hours to get it out.

All the years I've been fishing I've never come close. This happened so fast and clean I never even felt it. Stay safe out there and use sharp hooks!!

just the tip of the hook came through the otherside. The barb did not. The NP at the quick care knew exactly what to do.

So how did the NP get it out? The fishing line method where you push down on the hook and yank out?

Had to cut a 6/0 circle hook out of my calf about 20 miles offshore about 20 years ago. I was alone and the bite was on....Dolphin and blackfin tuna EVERY where so it was head to the hill and leave feeding fish and perfect weedlines or sharpen up the bait knife, heat it up and get to cutting. Would not recommend it but it was over in about a minute and after wrapping a t shirt around the wound it was right back to catching fish. When I did get back to the hill I flushed it with tap water and stuffed it with gauze and put a bandage over it. It hurt like hell but I survived. In retrospect I would probably wait until the bite subsided and head to the hill but in the moment it never entered my mind...it was either head back or do surgery LOL....

I took a hard head fin to the web between my thumb and pointer finger while wading a few years ago.

I clipped a pair of hemostats to it and jerked as hard as possible, it came out but I hit my knees in pain.

I stopped messing with it because every time it moved, it felt like to was tapping the backside of my fingernail.

Small bass got my son a few years ago with a rattle trap.

I felt horrible for him. Was in his index finger just like that.

Been there a few times. Usually pushed it through, cut shank and pulled it out. Worst is when a fish is still on bait and going crazy

When I was about 16 we were trolling out at the nipple off Mobile.
Big center console.
Guy in front of the boat saw a huge Cobia. Over 70 pounds. We passed up a heavy rod rigged w a live bait. Guy fought the fish from the middle of the boat. Another guy gaffed the green fish in the front of the boat while guy was about half way back. I saw it like slow motion. Fish is going crazy and sliding to the back super fast. Some how the hook was point out on the side of his mouth. Hit him about halfway up his calf. Buried the huge hook in the meat of his calf and they both spilled into the back of the boat. The cobia going batshit, the guys leg going all over the place and the guy hootin and wailin like a stuck pig (don’t blame him, it was gruesome). Somebody finally got the fish under control and beat it in the head as we were cutting the leader.
Hook was completely buried in his calf, a heavy hook that was probably more suited for sharks.
We didn’t have anything big enough to cut the hook so we taped the shank to his leg best we could to immobilize it and headed in.
Ended up having to take him to mobile to have it surgically removed.
I’ve seen quite a few hooking, stickings and cuts offshore over the years, but that one was crazy.
