I don't like to do this too much because some find the amount of beer I drink appalling.
We need to book a trip.

Had the best time

Cad-I have access to a camp at Toledo, but haven't been in years, as I have been chasing a different variety with speckles on them. Any decent guides that specialize in papermouths on the Bend these days? Don't think splashing my big ole Hydrasport amongst the stumps is a very good idea.

i didn't read the whole thread but you should tip your jig with a chartreuse berkeley powerbait nibble...they will kill it!

You can only launch in certain spots.
J.T.Thompson is good if you like to night fish under a bridge. He's fun. Tell him I sent you and you want the special rate...lol May knock off $20 haha.
Has a Pontoon Boat and a really nice Guest house to stay at.
I'll be going in Mar-Apr. You are welcome to follow if you dont mind tying your boat to cement columns. We caught over 450 last year, 250 White Bass and 50 Bass. Not to mention tons of Yellow Bass we threw back. And that was our first time trying. I tried the daytime stump fishing and if you get a bad day you catch nothing.
Good Luck

I want to make it out to Fork again, but I'm leary of it because of all the stumps. I need to go with someone to learn the cutouts, etc.
I have all of the boat lanes and main cuts marked on my GPS. But my boat is a 35 yr old Skeeter so it makes fishing Fork a little difficult. You provide the boat and I can bring the GPS.

I'm heading up to Lake Fork the week after Easter. He goes up 4 or 5 times a year.

Let me get it all fixed up and I'll see what I can do.
I need to get out to some larger impoundments and fish for bass more. Most of my experience has been crappie, catfish, etc. I need to get some of the patterning down and whatnot.

I fully expect to be shunned from this board but here goes: use live minnows
Used to work for me when I lived in La. Also wiped em out on jigs on occasion.

Caught several hundred at Toledo Bend one January fishing from a houseboat moored at a pier. One of my best fishing experiences ever.

I've been wanting to go. I haven't been either. Been trying to get a group of friends together to go stay in a cabin out there, but can't get enough to commit.

check out the state parks. a group of us have been talking about renting cabins for years but never have either.
a friend of mine has a nice camp on lake st. john. we used to fish a lot up there but most of our "group" now works opposite rotations and shifts.

Some of my friends are still in school, some military, and some having babies. We can never get more than a few together. I have a camp on Old River we go to a lot though. It works out better. I'll send a mass text out and let everyone know when I'm going for the weekend. Those who can come come.
Its a good time and we can catch piles of sac-a-lait off the pier, but I haven't got the bass fishing down yet.

Been invited to Old River by one of our levee board comissioners. I really need to go this year.
Posted on 1/27/11 at 3:11 pm to AlxTgr
i fished it years ago and had good luck. make the trip and report back on here. the only thing i really know about old river is that it's a flooding SOB. its low now but wont be for much longer.
Posted on 1/27/11 at 3:18 pm to MsandLa
As soon as it starts to warm up the Mississippi River rises from all the snow and ice melting up North. Once the MS river gets over 13' (BR) it starts flooding into Old River. Fishing is good when the river is at 23' and falling. The piers start to come out of the water at 17' and are completely out around 15-16'.
Last year was the worst year I can remember. Water came up in March and stayed high until September.

Do you'll have a lil houseboat on the river? We are in the process of building on this year to fish on.
