So, I've been shooting my 7mm-08 for the past five or so years and love it to death but i believe its tie for a new one. im really knowledgable on rifles but for some reason im confused on what my next gun should be. I'm between a .270 30-06 or a 300 mag. i want something with great power as i never shoot over 150 yards where i hunt. give me some of yalls opinions please.

Any of those calibers are good choices but I'd personally go with the 270

Get another 7mm-08.Dang good deer gun.Or for a real thumper get a 35 Whelen.Im not sure about La but in Miss you can use it as a primitive weapon. There is nothing primitive about it.A 200 gr bullet running about 2800 fps.Ammo is not expensive either.

.270, .308, or .30-06 are the best choices for a deer caliber in Louisiana.

Shooting to 150 yards you could get away with any caliber, as could 80% of the people hunting in this state.

.270

Or, if you think you may ever have the need for a magnum in the future... get a .270 wsm

Since you already have a deer rifle more than capable to the range you are wanting, I would step up to the 300 that way you have all your bases covered. If you ever get invited to hunt someplace or something different then you are use to hunting.

Please for the love of all things tasty and delicious do not get a .300 mag for shooting deer inside of 300 yards.

That's what I would do. Get a 7mag or 300. Otherwise just use what he got. Unless he just wants a new one. Nothing wrong with that.

Huh?

Anyway, for deer hunting, I could see going from one of those ancient long actions to a 7mm-08, but never the other way around. Another vote for getting another 7-08.

Yeah if he just wants a new rifle, of the 3 calibers 270/30-06/308 at the range he wants to use it for I don't think one caliber is head and shoulders better than the other. I would lean toward the .270 but with a 30-06 you will get a wider range of bullet weight to choose from which may be something the OP is interested in.
