Man it's totally outrageous what a 3/4 ton diesel costs. I dont think you can leave the lot for less than 62-65k for the most basic 4x4 these days. It's harder to find one less than 80k than more.
New 3/4 ton prices for sure, but a couple year old RAM 3/4 ton is $65 with maybe 30k miles on it lately. That's what I have my eye on, but even that is more than I want to pay, and sure as hell am not financing at 6-7%. Screw that. I'll drive my paid off 15 Tundra till it can't be patched up anymore. Only has 160k miles on it at this point. Figure I'm good for another 100k miles or 3-4 more years. By that point, prices will have come down or at least I won't take a bath on interest rates. Or I'll have enough to pay cash for one.
I'm wanting a 18-21 model RAM. They have delete and tune kits for those. The newer ones don't have a delete option so I won't be getting a newer one.

Why would you delete a truck you just bought? Does that not make it just disappear???

My 2012 Chevy is still going strong at 255K miles. Keep driving it. And tell him to give you the new truck price in bonus.

Diesel?

Sweet… I’ve got a 2012 Sierra ~160K, although I did have to replace the transmission a few years ago, it’s been doing well otherwise.

Can pull a house and doesn't seem to be breaking every 10ft.
Also, zero percent chance of your DEF tank level sensor crapping out and putting you in "200 miles until 5mph max" mode
If you don't need a diesel, don't get one. They suck.

Rams are using coil springs in their 3/4 ton trucks. Hard pass. Definitely not ideal for towing real weight.
And Ford's Powerstrokes are made in Mexico. No thanks.
If I had to replace my diesel, it would be a Duramax.

I "need" a diesel. A 40' 5th wheel, 2 utility trailers and a livestock trailer are great on a diesel. And that Diesel Exhaust brake when towing heavy weight on hills is a game changer. My boat and jet skis get towed with one of my 1/2 tons.
I will always have at least one diesel.

Mine currently has 42 miles until max 5mph. Nothing will make you want to light that fricker on fire like it deciding you can't drive it because a damn sensor clapped out.

None of them are perfect but the drive train in the rear of the engine made me say no to Duramax. Otherwise the Duramax is a great straight six design. I know why they had to do it but it sucks that the engine has to be pulled out of the vehicle if something simple breaks.
I'm currently loving my Ram 5.7 hemi 8 speed with 3.92 gears. I think it's a reliable combination and easy to work on and find parts.

Good luck finding something in stock.

Neighbor pulls his 5th well back and forth to Colorado and gets 14 mpg average.
If it didn't tow well he'd be under it upgrading everything. He's a motor head. I asked him what's he going to upgrade on his new truck.
He said nothing. Coming from him that means a lot. He's owned a diesel at some point his entire life and has always camped or hauled something.
Sold me on it if I was in the market.

If coil springs were as good as leaf springs, then their 1 tons would be using coils as well.

I have a 23 lariat f250 with the 7.3. It’s a beast. Even if it had an issue in the future I’d just buy another one.

The coil springs are fantastic as long as you don't overload the piss out of them. They ride noticeably better than any other 3/4 ton truck and for someone who isn't going to be grossing over 10k lbs, they're great. Mine rolls around at 9,200 lbs and rides better than most half tons.
Its really a great design. If the coils aren't adequate, you should've bought a 1 ton anyway because any 3/4 ton would be overloaded with what you're towing.

You get a better ride at the expense of a softer rear suspension. A 3/4 ton diesel is rated and not overweight towing a 13k lbs 5th wheel. But I have a buddy that bought a 23 Ram 2500 and it has noticeable rear end sag when towing heavy weight.
If you're worried about handling, get a half ton running around on 35 psi tires instead of a 3/4 ton running on 70 psi.
