Star equipment kabota with the kolher motor
Posted on 10/6/14 at 5:45 pm to DeepSouthSportsman
Went through the same ordeal back in the spring. Narrowed it down to the scag freedom z and the Kubota z series ultimately went with the scag because I have a authorized dealer a mile from my house....also scag had the better financing offer through Sheffield

Op I would stay away from kohler engines. In my experience as a small engine mechanic they are junk.
I would buy one with a kawasaki engine.

More $$$ but Fastrak is better mower, that mower compares to the Hustler Raptor SD.
Hustler and Bid Dog both built by Excel, but they built BigDog to be sold through 2 step distribution while moving the Hustler lineup to factory direct. They will be selling the Raptor SD at Lowes in 2015 (was online in 2014) but that's not why they built Big Dog.
Both solid brands, find a dealer you want to business with and get either one.

Never had a single problem besides the damn battery. It's been maintained well.

For just an acre. Save yourself some money an go with a 42". Cub cadets financed 100%

Cub cadet might as well weed eat the yard

I've had a Gravely 42" with a 23HP Kawasaki for 3 years, no issues yet...and that's with the wife using it more than I do.
My cousin and buddy have the 54" and another friend has the 32", they like em. Buddy with the 54" went 6 years without ever even changing the oil in the fricking thing.

OP would be crazy to go with anything other than the Big Dog at that price. Full thick welded deck, Kawasaki motor. Hydro gear 2800 hydro units and serviceable blade spindles.
Check and see what other mowers have serviceable spindles at that price range.
I can almost guarantee that the rest have sealed bearing units.
Sealed bearing = crap

Bought a 61" in 2005 & other than ordinary repairs & maintenance it has worked like a champ. The only thing we've had to replace is the choke cable not including blades and yearly service.

Used Dixie Chopper > anything new I that price range.
OP would be ecstatic with a used DC.

A Federal Credit Union would give you like 4 percent.
