He's a couple of years away from a true shooter, but that is a nearly perfect rack! Brow tines need to be bigger, but as far as shape of rack it's nearly flawless. As far as the injury, I have no clue.

It's a shame but I doubt he survives that one.

2- 2.5 yo

If any bone was damaged, it will certainly affect his antler development.

Seriously. Looks like a clean wound to me. Doesn't appear to affect the use of his leg at all. All dead tissue sloughed off, but everything else looks healthy.

Puncture wound------>abcess------>will heal eventually. The only thing that will jam him up is if the hot weather gets here before it heals completely. Then maybe the flys will get in it, but even then, he'll probably heal fine.

Deer are incredible animals. My powpow always says the entrence hole is halfway closed up before the bullet comes out.

Certainly looks like a .243 wound. Typical shot placement for a .243 user

And he's a 2 1/2 yo

It seems like it would have to get infected and spread if there is that much skin missing. But I am no vet.

You may be right. If hat was any kind of deer hunter then he'd find this deer in couple months, check his wound and get back to us. Oh well, guess we'll just have to speculate.
