A guy in da berry a friend recommended who does boat work at home. He’s been in the business 30 years.

I didn’t know if it was a really good price or if I should just use Mike’s since it is right next to the storage.

Mike's quoted me like $600 I think. You could call Ryan at Iberia outboards and see. He did some work for me and I thought he was reasonable.

$600 for what I listed above? So $450 is a pretty good quote.

Make sure to have those rings lubed someway... Older motors with low hours can be notorious for this. I think this is what happened to my motor. Rings were old and Sunday I ran seafoam through it and it loosened up stuff. Just my 2 cents. I had 302 hours on an 08 vmax 225. I am second owner and I've had for 2 years. I put approximately 60 hours on motor.... Crying shame it is!

YouTube and take the wife out for a great steak.
Have a Merc wrench that comes to me and I can buy at huge discount, like $7m less than yammy. Merc is turning the big boys out as fast as possible so highly likely some bad ones go out also. Never heard of Merc walking away from warranty claim. Their new motors are going to run circles around errybody very soon.

They are late to the game so we will see in a couple years. Yamaha went through their flaws lets see what Mercury goes through. Only thing I hated about my Mercury was the compressor and the fact a bearing went out and trashed the motor. I know the 4 strokes are a different animal.

Mercury 250 pro xs is what I ran on my extreme. My preference is for Mercury as I am sponsored by them. Pricing is better, atleast for me. Mercury props are far superior in my opinion. Many people have argued about Yamaha vs Mercury for years. It's been my experience that the main thing was always 2 stroke pro xs vs the 4 stroke sho. Well mercury now has a 4 stroke pro xs that is a v8 so that argument is no longer valid. They are both fine motors but my preference is Mercury. I have been with them since I started tournament fishing and they have been very good to me. #goboldly

I'm aware of the mercury tiered pricing and I agree that the sponsorship pricing plus warranty makes it maybe worth it

But being stranded still sucks

I think that $450 sounds a little high being that everything you listed could be gotten for less than $100 and take about an hour of labor to do yourself. But then again marine mechanics tend to charge ridiculous rates.

It cannot be flashed but Hydro-tec makes phase kits for the hpdi motors.

Not hpdi related, but I've been following USP tuning and they've been getting some great numbers from tuning newer 4 strokes lately. It's pretty impressive.

Would always worry about the long term effects of all of that on a $22k motor. If you can swing a new motor every couple years it wouldn't be bad. Just reminds me of all those offset wheels around town i see now days.
IMO, spending $450 for an oil change, filter, new impeller & plugs is highway robbery. My opti iridium plugs are $12/each at NAPA and $20/each at dealership. Learn to do the preventative yourself and spend the difference on tackle.
