My personal preference. Prob bc what we had growing up and since any dog I've spent much on has been shite.

She's already been 10X the companion as my $1,000 terrier.

I suspect he'll be fine.
They are tough little dudes.
Sparky will take on whatever he can, even at almost 14.
He won't tolerate a snake.

Dogs are a lot tougher than people give them credit for. He'll be fine. Our beagles jumped a bobcat one time, ran that bastard for several miles before we cut them off, shock collars wouldn't turn them around. Every couple of hundred yards we would find a beagle that was cut up bad, but they all ended up fine.

I had two dachsunds growing up and love the breed. My first one was very tempermental towards anyone but me and my grandmother. The second one was everybodies best friend. He never met a stranger. Several times guests had to turn around and come back to our house to bring him back because he was sneaky about jumping up in your vehicle if you left the door open and wouldn't make his presence known until a few miles down the road.
