Finally got done with my 308 build. Very excited to get this out to the range and see how it does.

Here are all my parts:

Aero Precision M5 FDE upper and lower receivers
Aero Precision lower parts kit
Hogue Grip
Magpul STR stock
Larue MBT Trigger (measured at 3 lbs 10 oz)
Cryptic BCG in Mystic Bronze
Faxon Big Gunner 18" 1:10 5R-rifled Barrel
BCM Mod 0 compensator
Radian Raptor Ambi charging handle
Aero Precision low profile gas block
Aero Precision rifle-length gas tube
Aero Precision Keymod handguard (I know M-Lok is considered "better" - already have a BCM Keymod and wanted to stay consistent)
Leupold Mark AR rings
Leupold VX3 3.5-10x by 40mm

And I'm ready to see which of these it likes best:

Hornady Black 168gr A-Max
Hornady Superformance 150gr SST
Barnes 165gr TTSX (handload)
Nosler 150gr Ballistic Tip (handload)

Everyone says it's not hard to accomplish MOA with one of their barrels and my fingers are crossed that it likes the Barnes TTSX 165. This thing sure does have a tight chamber right now - may loosen up a bit after I shoot it some.

Looks like you pilfered the scope off your dad's deer rifle.

Nitrided chambers are just like HC ones, you'll never loosen it up no matter how much brass you run through it.

Damn nice. Next build i'm going to get some aero stuff. I wanted to do a simple AR10 build and just did a Stoner complete upper and DPMS lower. A few things I don't like are the weight, trigger pull, and the stock. Will have to check out that larue trigger. Does it have much creep? Taking mine on a hog hung this weekend to break it in. Also love hand load Hornady SST in my 7mag and .243, so went with it for this gun as well.

Super nice rifle! About the weight, is that loaded with a scope. I have a SCAR17 and it's 10.33 lbs on a digital refrigerant scale loaded with a mark ar mount & mark ar 3-9 on it.

I was in my dad’s garage so he’s responsible for everything in the picture including the scale. But he loves his 21 foot Champion and fishes all the time.

He does have quite a few Leupold scopes on his bolt rifles and that’s where I got the idea. I like the generous eye relief, the light weight, the good warranty, and of course the good glass.

It’s a 2-stage trigger like most aftermarket AR triggers so there is some creep but the wall of resistance is very predictable and the break is very clean. I have a feeling I’m really gonna enjoy shooting it.

And PS, it appears your Burris scope mount is backwards and it may make it difficult to use the charging handle. If you notice I have the scope even with the end of the receiver where the charging handle is. I learned the hard way with one of my 5.56 rifles that you want the extra clearance.

That weight is unloaded but with the optic mounted. It came out lighter than I expected and doesn’t really feel like 9 pounds. I made sure to get a medium profile barrel because I know it’s easy to get the rifle over 10 pounds with a heavy barrel. I didn’t want the rifle to be front-heavy and I don’t plan on shooting consecutively much so heat buildup isn’t a concern. This is mostly gonna be a deer and hog slayer

Deleted post, for some reason I thought AP M5 in 6.5 CM which is what I'm running right now.

.308 a bit different.

Ever thought about using Lee Factory Crimp dies? I use them for all on my .223 and .30 cal. loads now, even my 30-30 and bolt-action loads.

Including the optic, right around $2000. I know that's pricey and I could've just gone with an M&P10 but I wanted it exactly how I planned it. Such is the tale with building ARs...

I have never put a crimp on my rifle rounds and I like being able to avoid another step. As long as the rounds feed in the rifle and the bullets don't wiggle themselves out the cases, no issues for me. Then again I've never reloaded for a semi auto rifle that wasn't a 5.56. I'll see if I need it.

You're going to have to return that bcg and get another gold one.

Looks good though. Now just need a suppressor.

I'm a poor now so I can only afford bronze...

How do you feel about barrel break-in? If I remember in your previous posts, you've said it's unnecessary and doesn't aid in accuracy. Just wanted to confirm before I haul my cleaning gear out to the range with it on the first trip.

Not kengel but I agree. It is unnecessary. Just shoot it.

That's how I'm leaning honestly. Just rather go out and shoot and have fun and worry about running crap down the barrel later.
