Shot a deer with a Muzzy Trocar and it didn't expand. Tracking job was tough, although only around 100 yards. Have killed 50 plus with Rage. I wanted to try Muzzy Trocar, first deer I have shot with one. Went straight to the Noxubee Co-op and bought some more Rage.

I had a rage bounce off a doe a while back. I’ve shot two with the G5 Megameat this year and the performance is incredible. Complete pass throughs and huge wound channels.

I'd argue that your shot placement has more to do with the distance they ran than the broadhead used. I'm not trying to stir the pot and I don't use muzzy but I've shot deer with 3 blade fixed heads which is basically a Trocar unopened and placement matters a ton in regards to blood and distance

Yeah, but you expect your mechanical to open up.

100 yards is not far, which is my point, blood trail was awful. Shoot me your email and I'll show you the exit wound, perfect shot placement, dick

Of course, but you both stated opposite opinions on rage. They all have a chance of failing.

What I was going to say. 100 yards and less is a pretty good shot placement with a bow most of the time. I have seen deer get shot in a couple places that they didn’t go 20 yards, but it was more luck than anything.

I’ve never used mechanicals, I understand why guys do I’m not knocking them. The trocar has 2 fixed blades at 1” wide and I’m sure the mechanical still cut some right? I’ve seen plenty of deer with 1 1/4” 3 blade fixed with only one hole (no pass through) bleed like crazy. So my point is I’m not sure what you are asking? I would personally not rely on a mechanical but if you do there’s always the chance of one not opening no matter the brand. The trocar still has plenty without opening to cause a blood trail, your issue with blood had less to do with the not blades not opening and more to do with what was hit and where on the deer. Sometimes that just maybe luck, but I highly doubt there’s a remarkable difference in blood between a deer shot with a fixed blade and one shot with a mechanical. It’s mostly in people’s heads. 1000s of animals are shot with both every year.

Are you sure it didn’t open? Do the trocars lock in place when open? I’ve had some of the original grim reapers open, pass through the deer, then find the arrow with the blades closed.

I'm not asking a question, just opening a discussion. I don't know how to post a picture. If you would like to see, someone can send an email that can.
