Those are white pelicans in a couple of those pictures. They migrate during the winter from the Great Lakes and follow the Mississippi.

They have been enjoying the shite out of the fore bay.

Might be a stupid question, but is it called a " potato " levee?
Posted on 1/10/16 at 8:52 am to tigerinthebueche
Bottom of page 26 should have 5 pics & top of page 27 should have 4 pics.

This is an educated guess. Durning the Great Depression Joe Beaud Sr farmed just North of New Roads. He was a potato farmer. He built the shed by the rail road just North of New Roads & started shipping potatoes North. That is where the potatoes where loaded on rail cars. That's the west side of LA 1. Other farmers joined in to help feed the North. Maybe that is when the potato levee was 1st built to help keep water out of what is now the Fore Bay so it could be farmed. Pointe Coupee has some very interesting history & is widely excepted as some of, if the most, fertile land in the world.

I thought some of y'all were saying organza would open before BC?
Posted on 1/10/16 at 2:28 pm to choupiquesushi
was it an engineer? Because if so he has an excellent reason why he decided to open BC first.

crawfish update?

As the forcast drops the day the Morganza opens will push back. As of now "Wednesday". A lil more rain feel with last front than what was expected. It rained all the way up to Canada.
& why would they open the Morganza 1st? There has many years the Bonnet Carre was opened that the Morganza wasn't utilized. Not sure on ratio, but I'd imagine it's at least 2 - 1 ratio. It's not like they just make this stuff up as they go.
