Anyone else's Mercury outboard produce a visible amount of white steam from the exhaust at idle after warming up?

My 2013 175xs started steaming a few weeks back randomly and have been told by a few mechanics it's a normal thing so long as there aren't any alarms for the temp. No steam or anything once running, just at low speed/idle.

Anyone else seen this?

How long since the water pump was replaced?

Read about this recently, not sure it was mercury or not but it's from humidity boiling off supposedly.

Guy I bought it from had it done in December of 2021. I've had service done annually since and they did all the usual maintenance as far as the Lower unit, plugs, had a New oil reservoir on the motor itself done, etc.

Would a bad water pump give any signs of going bad?

Both the mechanics I talked to swear it's normal with Mercurys for some reason. I've seen a few around the house that do something similar, but it happening one random week is worrying me

I’ve seen it but it’s been a while and it wasn’t much.
As long as there are no alarm and you have a good stream of water from cooling you should be ok

Have the same motor but 2012 model. Has done and still does the same thing. Steams at low idle after warming up and after running WOT then shutting down or getting off throttle to putt around. Just something it does but has never been an issue. Motor still runs great. Try to service it once a year and replace water impeller. Have had it alarm on temp but that was when I figured out it’s best to service and change impeller every year.

Generally not a problem. The vast majority of water and exhaust flow goes down the exhaust jacket and out the prop. At low idle more exhaust and thus more steam are pushed out of the idle port due to the water pressure at the prop. Normal for any outboard. Etechs steam A LOT at idle.

Thanks y'all, have me feeling better about it doing it. Boat never gave or gave an overheat alarm or anything, and stays at +3psi at idle with a strong stream from the telltale.
