Have a 2011 F150 that blows cold on drivers side no matter the temp. Got the replacement actuator/blend door in the mail and am attempting to remove it without pulling the entire dash. Ford wants $1200 to pull dash/evac AC etc.

Anybody ever done this? For the life of me I can’t get the old one out by going under the dash but no way I’m paying ford that much money for a $19 part.

YouTube is your friend. They want that much money, because it is typically a ginormous PITA to do

You’re telling me. Only YouTube video I found that doesn’t involve removing the dash wasn’t much help. Seems to skip over the most important parts which I assume means ‘is a huge PITA for everyone’.

Hands cut to shite already but I’m getting close. Just didn’t know if anybody had any tips

One of the ones on my old Tahoe required me to take apart the entire passenger side dash down to A-pillar supports going across the body. I even had to take out the airbag. The center console needed to be slid back, but to do that, I had to take both seats out. It was the most I've ever torn into a dash.

Just pray you don't have to replace your $15 rear main seal next weekend. That's another all-day affair for a stupid little part

Can't help with the F150 but mine went out in my old Yukon. I just never fixed it because you had to remove the entire dash to get to it. The part was very cheap.

I have the same truck, replaced mine less than a month ago - not a challenge at all if you don’t rush it

Thanks for the link, but that’s the top door/passenger side. The drivers side one is on the bottom and under the dash completely which of course is the one that went out.

Find a video on how to pull the radio to get to it. 1 hand through radio other hand through glove box. Get the plastic tool set from harbor freight to pull your plastic around your radio. I did mine. Took about 1.5hrs with me going really slow

That’s still the top/passenger blend door I think

I was working on the bottom one. Finally got it. Getting the plug attached to the new one was the most frustrating part. Glad I got it, I was about to burn the thing to the ground.

Appreciate the help everybody

Did you go in through the radio way. I have heard some people can do some can’t. I don’t really want to remove the entire dash.

What year? Dual climate? Center shifter/console?

On the 09-14 F150s the drivers side is on the bottom of the unit in the dash and the passenger is on the top. I went from the bottom. Didn’t pull any part of the dash. Does require yanking back the carpet, and potentially pulling the seats and console, but it’s easier this way.

LINK

This link basically describes what I did but I’ve got some tips if you are attempting it

It’s a real son of a bitch, but it’s worth the work to not pay the dealer over 1K.

Let me know when you attempt and I can give you a few tips that helped me

Mine went out on my 2011 after I bought it used. Thankfully I bought an extended warranty. My dealer fixed it while they had my truck in for an oil leak. I gladly paid the $100 deductible not to fix that myself.

The passenger side of my 04 Yukon had the blend door issue. Heat instead of cold. If I stopped, turned of the engine, then back on, it worked. I decided to dig it out of there, cleaned the contacts, then put it back in and it is good as new. Now, the driver’s side is starting to hang up. I’m googling another video on this one.
