Marmots in Baton Rouge???

Saw something strange this morning. My house backs up to some woods/park. As I was getting the dog to come inside I see what I thought was a squirrel. As I looked closer, it didn’t have a tail. It went under the fence then popped back up on top of the fence and continued running along the fence until it disappeared into some trees.

Do we have marmots/prairie dogs/ground hogs here in BR? Could it be a tail-less squirrel?

We had a cat squirrel without a tail at my house last year. Was strange looking

No there are not prairie dogs in Baton Rouge

Marmots (pic below) have tails, and are considerably larger than a grey/fox squirrel. I’m thinking you saw a squirrel with missing tail (bottom pic)

i saw some strange looking animal like that, almost like a monkey at rest stop in Mississippi few years ago. It must have been someone’s pet that got loose or something
