Not worth it imo, I’ve never understood why its a thing.

I think I pointed out the only substantial reason other than some subjective preference - pushing for lowest possible collapsed length and still be non-SBR compliant.

Other than that (and my first build was one), I don't recommend it.

I am only interested in the pistol caliber ones anyway.

Ah. Sorry. Misunderstood. I used to be in the camp that those are gimmicks. I'm rethinking this as well.

Me too, but thinking of what one would be like in a home/neighborhood situation, especially with the short barrel.

With SBR considerations, I'm not sure if a lightweight AR-15 isn't going to be the most effective choice on an ounce-for-ounce basis. At a certain point, the pistol caliber weapon loses if the weight/bulk is too high.

I just don't want to fool with 5.56. I have multiple pistols in 9 already and ammo to go with.

I get that. Have you considered a purpose built AR9 config, or are you set on building?

Your way will be a little easier, then. If it comes with a stock and no tax/no stamp, it's a rifle. If it has a brace, it's a pistol. Just buy a rifle - like that PSA PX-9, which I think lists for under $600 and takes Glock mags (or the equivalent - even the High Point is an option in this category, say whatever one wants about their terrible pistols, their rifles/carbines are legit values.)

I would get a built standard lower and get a 9mm upper and run the CMMG ARC mags. Then you can get a 556 upper if you like down the line or one of the other AR calibers. If you get one that runs Glock mags then thats all you have.

If you get a built lower and it has a stock on it...it still can be a pistol lower if you swap a brace on yea?

Good, its not necessary

What? Being necessary has nothing to do with it. Stupid argument.

I don't want to tell you wrong. The ATF is very technical.

I would certainly be very familiar with their ATF 2011-4 ruling before I did anything like that.

A pistol can turn into a rifle
A rifle cannot turn into a pistol

Legally

Retarded, yes I know.

Ok, so bottom line is, pistol length barrel that can be legally shouldered in 9mm?
