Weather guard expensive but worth it .they have a great warranty too . 10 years on the box at least some of the box components. Had a spot weld break on my lid and they covered box was 9 years old

The best box I ever owned was a Ranch Hand crossover, but they don't make them anymore. I don't know why they quit making them- maybe because they were too heavy for most new truck beds. I had mine on a 2005 GMC Sierra and it started splitting the bed.
RKI makes some good boxes.

Hey Chick, find someone that sells RKI, you won't waste your $. I've had one for 21 years and have only changed the lid pistons. It's stout in aluminum and will last.
Got mine in NOLA at Truck and Transportation in '97.
Good luck.

Where did the bed split? With regular stuff in it, mine weighs maybe 5-600lbs total, and everything looks fine on my truck

If you open it more than twice a week and want the lid to stay open on it's own, Weatherguard. If you open it less than that all the others are fine.

Always figured you for one of these types:

I had a weatherguard on my last truck and it was awesome.
I bought a UWS for my new truck and do not recommend it. I had to do some rigging to get it waterproof, it will fill up with water in the carwash or if I drive through a deluge. My weatherguard never got a drop inside.

I’m selling a black Weatherguard saddle box, model 117-5-02, on New Orleans craigslist for $300 right now if anybody wants one. It’s a big wide one.

Drill drain holes. Mine came with one, but I drilled another one on the other side. When I spill shite in there, I just wash it out
There is a piece of sheetmetal about 1/2" underneath the bed rail on my 04 2500hd. I was gonna put some bar stock to spread out the load, but that piece of sheetmetal doesn't go the whole length of the bed rail, so I just have it bolted through with 3/8" bolts and washers on both ends

Ford and Chevy "work"truck beds were cracking in the 80's up to 98ish on the reg. Headache rack and loaded toolbox is heavy on the thin sheet metal bed caps.

Update: after researching, I need a low profile tool box...black...and one that isn't 20" wide...the truck only has a 5.5 foot bed.
Seems like most are either really slim (eg, 12") or they are 20" wide. would love something close to 15 or 16".
Anyone have a recommendation?

Camlocker is the best toolbox brand IMO.
Weather guard has them beat on the industrial scale....
But if it was m I'm buying a camlocker. Everytime

I’d go first with Camlocker then UWS

RKI or Weatherguard is the way to go. More expensive but better quality boxes than the rest.
