Good launch, don't mind paying. I always have launched in fairview park when family was camping in there...

how's the jahncke launch? Lots of parking? Get crowded? Might take a ride during lunch.

Don't know. I don't go on the river unless my BiL wants to take my nephew out there for bream.

Probably take an hour from jahncke. There are only 3 no wake zones. 1 short one in front beau chene, 1 real long one in madisonville, and one at the mouth to the lake. If you're going to far view state park I would just launch at the old coast guard shack on the lake front in madisonville or the free launch in mandeville.

i think its the beau chene wake zone i always turned around and never went past.... so past beau chene, it's clear sailing all way to jahncke launch? that's not bad. I know the long no wake in madisonville right by fair view... I just want a nice place i can launch to go cruise with family... jahncke is closest to my house.

There's also a public launch at Hwy 22 and the River across from Marina Del Ray, but it can get full/busy on weekends in the summer.

If you aren't worried about paying, just use Marina del Ray. That's where my boat is. Easy to use, nice launch.

Very true. I suppose it depends on where you're going on the River. It's blessed with a lot of launches.

There's a public launch at the end of LA 1077 at the mouth of the river. The road to the launch is terrible, though.

It is public, but you have to stop at the store on the corner of 22 & 1077 and get a permit tag to put on your trailer. I'm not sure what the cost is.

I think it's $10-12 a year.

I hope they're using the money to fix that darn road! Talk about an axle breaker!

Pretty sure that it's been re-paved in the last couple of months. Very smooth....until you get to the single-lane wooden bridge.

Ps...that bridge was featured in a scene in the recent Green Lantern movie. The characters jumped the bridge in a Jeep Wrangler

Just went to the boat launch at the end of Lake Rd. in Madisonville 2 weeks ago. It is the best free one around and most everyone is courteous. It also has a gentle slope so you dont have to struggle putting in/getting out. There is another smaller one next to T-Rivers, but I would only put a small boat in there.

Marina Del Ray you gotta pay, and they always have problems with water in their fuel.

There is a shitty one right North of the bridge in madisonville, but I would only launch a flatboat there.

I used to live in Covington, and used the Jahncke one a good bit. The water behind the launch is shallow and you can get in a bind pretty easily there.

I've never paid to launch at Lake Rd. Maybe you guys are getting the run-around. Been using that one for probably 15 years with no problems. It is your best bet because you can ride up the river and check out ALL of the women on the way.

Depending on where you are in Mandeville, there is another one at the Mandeville Harbor, but it is steep too.

I think it used to take probably ~30-40 minutes to make it from the mouth of the river to the launch in Covington. It is a good ride

Yeah, you go all of the way into Covington by the launch before it gets to another one.

They paved around two corners when I was there last

First off you have to have a pass to launch at lake rd madisonville. I've seen a cop out there every time I've gone. He's been writing tons of tickets. He pretty much just camps out there all weekend. It's $12 for a year. If you do get a ticket and it's your first one, you can take it up to the store and pay them for a tag and they'll dismiss the ticket.

From the 4th street launch (Jancke) it's about 20 minutes to fairview and probably another 10-15 through the long wake zone and then maybe 10 to the lake. The launch under the bridge is a pain. Very little room/parking.

If you want to cruise the river, do 4th street. If you want to have the option for the lake, shell out $12 (or take your chances) and do lake road. No where in between is any better than those two.

And lake road is now all paved.

I took a ride out there this weekend.

THoughts on Lake Rd launch, that rode is a mother fricker driving down, you have to go over a single lane bridge with a boat that you can't see over the bridge. They parking lot sucks, the launch is okay but its at the mouth of the river and the wind/waves is always worse out there for your boat. Its not as good conditions down the way there.

I checked out the marina's launch and I think the $5 is worth it tremendously. Nice launch, plenty of parking room and its monitored more so than lake rd.

Not sure about the depth of the launch at 3rd/4yh street. The launch looks nice but hard to tell how good it is when actually launching the boat in the water.

Yeah, the bridge sucks, but if you usually can see around it if you look before you get to it because the road curves on the other side. I like the parking lot because it's so big and you have plenty of room. I just hate when the current is kicking and it's a pain to get the boat lined up on the trailer.
