Thanks for all of the replies.

I’m located in south central La but travel a lot, so I don’t mind taking a road trip at all.

I’ve always had an interest, so after a medical issue made me look at life differently, I bought some equipment and dove in.
I talked to photographers I knew, watched videos online but the biggest thing was just getting out and shooting everything I could for practice.
I can take decent pics now but need to fine tune and work on learning how to edit.

Thanks for the reply. I shoot often and practice on everything I can find.
I’ve gotten pretty good and have amassed a pretty nice collection of equipment since starting in August.
I shoot a Canon R5 with a RF 400 2.8 L along with the 1.4 & 2x extenders when needed.

If you are in south central LA, look at Cazan Lake for some good pictures. While it’s not owls or eagles, there are plenty birds there to shoot.

It would be cool if you wildlife photographer types started a thread. I can’t remember the guy who does that every once in awhile.
I always enjoy those threads.

We have a bunch of Osprey nest over on the coast in MS. They’re pretty impressive when active.

go launch a boat someplace around Lake Verret or Lake Palourde and travel the bayous and canals that connect them. you won't miss the birds/nests at this time of year

edit to include this is for eagles and not owls

2515 Vespian St
New Orleans

This is Skelly Rupp Stadium in City Park. There are two adult eagles with two hatchlings. Saw a third eagle flying but got chased away by the two adults.

You only have a few months to visit before a construction project will relocate the nest, which they may come back to or relocate.

Can't help with the owls, but I know of at least half a dozen within an 30 minute boat ride of Amelia. There are a few new ones since Ida.

There is apparently an active eagle nest in Metairie. A person posts pics and updates on Facebook, but won't divulge the exact location.

I know exactly where this is and they currently have two eaglets in the nest. It is amazing to sit in my friend's yard and watch them fly, soar and come back with food.

Can you tell me where it is? My buddy who grew up in Metarie but now lives in Mid City doesn't believe me that there are eagles in Metarie.

Here’s the thing. They want to limit traffic in the area while the eaglets are nesting. IT’s not my information to give out so I hope you understand. The community really tries to let them be.

After they leave the nest I'll ask if I can divulge the approximate location. If he still has child hood friends in Metairie he could ask around and probably find out where they are. It's not that big a secret.
