I dont have $1k to drop on a 1911. I've noticed that there are a few brands in the $400 range but didnt want to buy a gun that was going to be nothing but trouble. What would be something to look at. I'm leaning toward the Rock Island.

Didn't Remington just come out with one that was pretty cheap?

It seems like I read it was a pretty good gun.

It's $700. I'm looking at buds and they have an American Tactical for $389 with a few in between that and the Para for $553. Thats the range I'd like to say in.

Para for $553 sounds like a good deal.

1911s are like old Harleys anyway. You've gotta take 'em all apart and put em back together to make 'em run smooth.

I like the 10mm round, but just not in a 1911. I'd rather have a .45

If you want a good 1911, you're gonna have to drop more than $400.

An ATI or a RIA will run, no doubt. But they just don't have the finesse and smoothness of something American. If you want a budget American 1911, I suggest the Ruger SR1911. They actually have one right now at Bowie Outfitters for $769.

I would also suggest an entry level SW1911 or the lowest level Kimber - the Custom II, is really good. The Remington R1 and R1 enhanced are both great too.

If you get a 1911, get an American one. Do us all a patriotic favor.

One thing for sure, you've got some real good options in that price range now.

2-3 years ago, not so much.

I just got a Ruger SR1911 for $699.95. I don't think you can get a better 1911 for that price. They're hard to find though because they're very popular.
