I haven't done one of these in a while and things have been happening out at the farm.

The story is, we used a bull that was a son of Clear Win for a couple of years back in like 2014-2016.

Clear Win

Out of the calves we had, we kept the 4 best daughters who are grand daughters of Clear Win.

We are currently still using TCC Candy Gumdrops as our breeder bull.

TCC Candy Gumdrops

For reference, Candy Gumdrop's $160,000 dam SDR Candy Cane.

Now, the Clear Win grand daughters we retained are coming 3 year olds and having their first calves sired by Candy Gumdrops. We are two for two heifer calves so far and they represent the first intersections of Clear Win and Candy Gumdrops genetics.

The first is the most beautiful colored calf we've ever had out of a solid red cow. Could not be happier with her! Super flashy.

The second was born this morning. She really replicated the markings of her great grandfather Clear Win and her grandmother Candy Cane. Again, we are very pleased with the results.

Got me all like...

What do you do with these? I mean, is there a market for longhorn meat or what?

Sure, grass fed lean beef is becoming popular with healthy eating people. I wouldn't eat it though.

or what?

Every calf we cull usually ends up being a roper.

We keep the best looking/best built ones as replacement breeders and are constantly culling to improve the overall herd.

We drink beer and look at them as the sun goes down livin' the good life.

Hell yeah, I love goats. I want some, but my momma doesn't want them in her flower beds. We only have barb wire and no real good way to keep them penned up and out of her yard.

these are mini goats. I have goats and chickens, the wife wont let me get cows (yet) working my way up. I just enjoy being outside all the time, and most evenings put a chew in sit and watch the goats play, and chickens peck lol

the cream one has blue eyes

Those are cool.

Someone ran about 20 pygmy goats through the sale barn last time I was up there. They were going cheap. It was everything I could do not to bid.

lol i had been wanting some. Had chickens for a year now, wife caved in. so i found a lady who breeds pygmy/nigerian mix to get the best of both worlds. So i went and looked and looked at freaking goats and settled on those 2 little girls. We have had a blast with them, they are little acrobats..... My uncle has land connected to mine and has 75 head of beef cattle, so i get to enjoy watching those at least, and without doing any of the work.

I thought they looked feminine, but I wasn't going to ask and insult you.

Are you going to get a Billy at some point and start having kids?

lololol not right now. The billys stink, always piss on their beards. Nasty mfrs.. Also another reason i got girls is the wethered male goats are prone to kindney stones which could kill them. Basically the females are lowest maintenance. Maybe in a couple yrs i will let someone bring a billy to breed, but i really dont want one personally.

not very loud at all. They do make some noise, but its not all of the time. And you have to get 2. 1 would be miserable by itsself. Also, i would say they are easier to tend to than my labs. I have had them 2 weeks, and only put feed out for them twice, they browse around eating briars and such. And have them set up on an automatic waterer. Plus their lil turds are like tiny rabbitt pellets, and dry super fast. Not like a big ole dog pile lol. And they are super friendly, we go out there and sit down on the bench and they run to jump in our lap to be petted. They are excellent little pets, and pure entertainment if you have them stuff to jump on.

I had to put my 13 year old lab down last Friday night, so I have a very large void I'm looking to fill.

I think I may have to get a set.

lol yes craigslist, facebook groups. look for pygmy and nigerian. They will eat low lying leaves on fruit trees. Fence them in...also azaleas will kill the goat, poison to them.

Holy shite, I just told my wife that I bought some to see how she'd react and she's excited. Wasn't expecting that.

ETA: She's already thinking of names.

Clyde:

I know ZERO about longhorns...I used to have Charolais when I was a kid...What are the preferred traits of a longhorn (what brings the best money at sale)?

I've often heard Longhorn meat is rather tough...true/false?
If not used for meat or roping calves, then what is the breed known for?
