I just got the combos for me, the wife, and 3 grandchildren today. Off the top of your head what’s the allowed crab traps you can put out per person?

Wire traps in louisiana require a gear license used to be $15 a year for ten traps recreational. I bought a lifetime crab trap license for $100. Now you can run all the rings and hand lines you want with a lifetime fishing license

Not to hijack the thread, but is a set net considered a “trap” requiring a gear license?

If so, I might have to look into this.

I currently have the combo and went to wildlife and fisheries office to purchase a lifetime crab trap license. I was told that when the structuring of lifetime licenses change then the crab trap license will be included in the combo.

Starting June 1st, all recreational gear license will be included in lifetime license. Makes it even less I have to purchase every year.

Yep. I read the regs book they gave me and starting in June crab traps up to 10 will be included in lifetime. I spent $800, on June 1st it would be $1700.

Motherfricker! I just bought my lifetime crab trap license in October. I have been having a lifetime fishing and hunting for 25 years.

All will be grandfathered in. I’ve had mine since I was a small kid. Best gift my parents could have given me.

To answer your question. You can have up to 10 crab traps. Anything over that, you will need a commercial license.

Yes. Hoop nets, crawfish traps, etc. All those extra recreational license we still had to buy will be included.

Also for people with teenagers, the age for license is moving up to 18.

Yes as long as you have it before June 1, it will be grandfathered in. Mine is from the 90s. Paid for itself the first two years after I turned 16. Even at $500 it’s not bad if compared to other states.

Yep digging into this it looks like they lumped all the privileges from the Sportsmans paradise license into the lifetime umbrella so you can do anything you want other than pull a trawl over 16 feet this is huge for me and my family as we all have lifetime combos but reside in MS now

So what license would I need to use 18 crab nets?

crab nets

If you are talking about basic ring nets, then a basic fishing and saltwater license is all you need. The crab license is for traps.
