I read an article a while back, I can't find it now, where most gun owners shoot less than 6 rounds per year. If you are CCing and not regularly training then well ... you are screwed.

When you go to the range and stress is non-existent, your worst shot will probably be your best shot in a self defense scenario. Your hands will be shaking. You wont be standing perfectly still and neither will your target. You won't have the time to get a good sight picture. No closing one eye, lining it up and taking a deep breath while you slowly pull the trigger back.

It will be a scary, quick, down and dirty. Practice, Practice, Practice else you are endangering others as well as yourself.

Accidents happen when we don't train and aren't diligent in everything we do.

Hardly. There have recently been women killing intruders in their homes. One with a .22. The training is 36 shots. Per the article, "Live range fire shall include 12 rounds each at six feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet for a total of 36 rounds."

Hardly significant imo.

What you say here kinda shoots yourself in the foot, so-to-speak. Really. Given that info, what's the point?

So you still have to retrain every 5 years? What's lifetime about it then, other than the fee?
I agree. The hassel is not the money so much as finding another class and the time. Screw it, I'll keep it in my truck.

I finally called yesterday am. Got to speak to "Mary". She tracked my app down and told me it would be at most a couple of weeks. Two weeks would make 12 weeks wait.

Just this January I renewed mine. Guess I'll wait 5 years then go lifetime.

I pay $7.50 a year here in Alabama. I am an older gent so a lifetime permit wouldn't be an economic advantage for me.

Actually quite wrong. What I am saying is that practice is what is going to save your life. If you go to the range and can shoot 50, 100, 200 rounds through the mid chest cavity then good. Your natural instincts are putting the shots where they need to be. If half of your shots are in the white (off a standard silhouette target)then that is most likely what you will shoot when under duress.

It's no different than anything else, why do golfers hit 100s of balls a day? To get the muscle memory down so that when stress is a factor the muscles take over. Will they always hit the perfect shot ... nope they can shank shots into the woods just like I do. Although I do it a heck of alot more

This ties directly into my other point --

I was talking about how often someone shoots AFTER a CC permit has been issued or a standard gun purchase. I am assuming the 36 shots fired you are talking about is the required proficiency for a LA CC permit qualification. That means 36 shots are fired at the qualification. A permit in LA is for 5 years. If that person doesn't stay proficient and never shoots again until their next qualifying time they are shooting an average of 7.2 rounds per year. In Texas I can go 4 years between qualifying. If all I shoot are my 50 rounds required for my test and then do nothing before my next test ... I am only shooting 12.5 rounds per year. That is what I am was saying the article was referencing. Practice not testing for the permit.

Most gun owners don't have a CHL. Thus they are never required to go test with the weapon. So they can go several years without firing their weapon. That is what the article was talking about. People go out, buy a handgun for home defense. They go to the range put a few rounds through it and then put it in a drawer at home. They don't practice with it regularly.

So when you get to where you need it ... You probably will be a wild shot. Sure you might get a few to hit and I pray to God you do. But I would rather have confidence than I will rather than hope things will work in my favor.

No where did I say anything about the effectiveness of calibers, or what is deadly. One of my house guns is a .22. It's better than nothing.

What I am talking about it practice. If you don't practice you can't expect to be accurate when it counts.

Hardly significant imo.

And to be blunt ... 36 rounds every 5 years is insignificant. Can you live with that ... sure ... but is your life or your families lives worth the risk? Not mine

If all the training you are doing is once every 5 years, I would call that little to no training also.

Is there a new form to fill out, or do you just cut a $500 check and they know what you want?
