License plate thieves - prevention tips

Just left the DMV with a new plate for my boat trailer. Damn thieves love to take trailer plates. Any tips on how to rig one up to make it harder to steal. A family member of mine gave up on keeping it on the trailer due to it being stolen multiple times so he keeps it in his truck.

There's many different screw heads to choose from.. Of course none of them work if your thief has a set of different wrenches like a quality thief would have

Reminds me of the different lug nuts on rims that started back in the 90s. I had a set on my Jeep where one lug nut was different from the other 4. Like you said though, any thief could just get the different sockets and steal anyways.

I have to do the same. Dad passed away due to Covid in Feb. Someone stole the plate and we can't find the trailer title. Not looking forward to this headache

Considerung most trailer plates are on a plastic bracket under the running light and can easily be broken off by a thief...
Keep in truck and if stopped say it broke off pulling out of driveway or backing down launch
