Last Days of a good dog. How do you deal with it?

he is a 13 year old jack russell fiest mix, sweetest smartest dog I have ever known.
he has to stay with my Mom Now, because I stay gone, and my wife doesnt understand about him.
I am at Mom's today,it's pouring rain here, but I get inside the house, and he is there waiting to get petted and talked to. Then he just goes over and cuddles up inside my rain coat where I left it on the floor behind her door, then lays there looking at me.
makes you feel good and heart breaking at the same time

As long as he isn't in obvious pain, you let them do their thing.

Spoil him with bacon and corndogs. As he passes on a good dog should feel loved and happy. Anything less would be a tragedy.

he doesn't seem to be in any pain, but he has never been a crybaby.

We had to put down our (originally my wife's before we married) Brittany Spaniel that was 17 yrs old. That was the best dog that anyone could ever want. Excellent with kids. My wife cried like a baby. I will have to admit that it was kind of dusty in the room.

Sorry to hear. I don't deal well with a pet with failing health. The last dog we had put to sleep, I cried like a baby. Just spoil them and help them to be comfortable. It's all you can do.

We had a Boston for 10 years that the wife loved more than me. After 4 bouts of cancer, she finally passed. Just make the dog as comfortable and happy as possible.
Also, there is nothing worse than your 1 year old daughter walking around the house saying "wow wow" looking for the dog after it passed.

Are you putting him down? Spoil the hell out of him.

Is it the dog's last days or your last days being with him since he has to stay with your mom now?

I respect all you guys and am happy that dogs can have caring owners like you all. I've just never had a pet that I had that close of a relationship with and have had several dogs and cats through the years.
I have 2 jack russell pieces of shite right now that I'd give away in a second if my wife and kids wouldn't kill me over it.

I was going to say something like this. I had one that we had to put down several years ago, and I scrambled him a couple of eggs every night of the world. let him eat what he wanted, lay where he wanted, and pretty much rule the root. Just ensure his last several months on earth are comfortable and such that he understands he's the freakin tits/can do as he pleases.
Will likely buy you another month with him, or could. I'm convinced my lived / stayed pain free an extra month knowing there were scrambled eggs in his future, every day, around 6.

I felt this way until I had a good dog.

right, getting used to the fact, that any visit now might be the last one. I wish I can keep him with me.

She doesn't want a dog in the house, especially one that wants to come get in the bed with you.
She's not a hater, but won't deal with that.
